Local take-out food establishment raises money for breast cancer BY ERIC NEWMAN

A recently founded Peoria eatery has already begun making a difference in the local community. Fixin’ to Eat, a meal-prep kitchen designed for customers to create pre-prepared meals to cook at home with their families that opened in January, held an event on July 24 to raise money for breast cancer awareness and treatment. Owner Jaimi Morgan offered customers a $2 meal, and while at the shop, had prize baskets donated by other local businesses available for raffle. The money raised would be matched by Fixin’ to Eat, and would go toward gift cards for women battling cancer to help them prepare meals while in recovery. “These women are already going

through so much, we just want to take one less stressor — getting food on the dinner table — off their backs,” Morgan said. Reba Mason-Mikutowicz, founder of Reba’s Vision — a West Valley organization that provides free digital mammograms, wigs, hats, bras, prosthetics and other help to local women fighting the disease — was on hand for much of the day as well, lending her group’s time and credibility to the cause. With the support of organizations like Reba’s Vision and local commerce groups spreading the word, Morgan was surprised at the volume of responses she received. “It was originally a hokie-pokie Facebook event that had about 10 people signed up.
