Your child will get a great workout under Christen’s guidance. Not only is she a Steward PE teacher, but she also coaches field hockey, lacrosse, and basketball during the school year. In addition, Christen has been coaching teams throughout Richmond for several years including Geronimo lacrosse, Tally Ho hockey, Collegiate School, and Overtime Athletics. Tom Funkhouser has ten years’ experience coaching middle school soccer and lacrosse, and is the director of the summer sports camps at Steward. He also loves teaching history and English in the Middle and Upper Schools, but enjoys being outside on the playing fields most of all. Anton Gaston agaston@merig.com

As a chef for Meriwether Godsey in Steward’s dining services, Anton spends his days meeting the culinary needs of teenagers, so he is a survivor of the ultimate food challenge! With a degree from Chicago’s School of Culinary Arts and years of experience as an executive chef at clubs and resorts, he will provide a fresh food perspective and open up a whole new world in the kitchen for his campers. Be prepared to be amazed by what your child can cook!

Mary has been a science and technology teacher at Steward for 15 years. She is in charge of the School’s recycling program and has been active with the efforts to increase sustainability on campus for years. Kurt is Steward’s varsity tennis coach and a four-time All-American in tennis at Ferris State University and winner of the university’s first-ever NCAA Championship in 1989. He traveled the world playing tennis professionally after college. He holds five national titles and 15 state titles in Michigan, Maryland, and Virginia in singles and doubles. Before creating K & L Sports with his wife Lisa, he was the Head Tennis Professional and Director of Junior Tennis at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

Kurt lives and breathes lacrosse! In addition to pursuing his master’s degree in education at the University of Richmond, he is Steward’s new head coach for boys varsity lacrosse. Eric is a favorite face in Steward’s Upper School, where he has taught physics, biology, and chemistry since 2006. As a VCU graduate with a master’s degree in forensic science, he knows his way around the laboratory. His camp is sure to inspire young minds! Erin Jablonski jablonskiea@vcu.edu

If your daughter has any interest in field hockey, Erin is the coach she’s been waiting for! During college, Erin was the goalie for VCU’s team, and she is now the co-founder of Priority Goalkeeping. In addition, she has been coaching for several years with High Voltage Elite Field Hockey as a “Futures” coach and was the Stafford High School goalkeeping coach. Continued on page 40
