Greetings Welcome to the 2020 Parade of Homes hosted by the Builders Association of Elkhart County. President’s Message I would like to take this time to welcome you to our 2020 Parade of Homes. This is our 53rd year hosting this event. Summer officially begins June 20th the first day of the Parade. With that in mind, we have pushed ahead and planned an event to lift our spirits and showcase our great members. Our continual desire is to educate our community and advocate for our builder and associate members. I welcome you to our Showcase! A special thank you must be given to our Parade Committee! The planning of this year’s Parade has required many more meetings, and many of those meetings have been fraught with technical difficulties. (I am sure we all have video conferencing horror stories now.) They have waded through the Governor’s executive orders and prepared for a safe and healthy Parade. I say a hearty thank you to everyone who served and to Krista Prusinski of Kendall Lighting Center who gave great leadership to the Parade Committee. Thank you to Big C Lumber our Gold Level Sponsor and a special thanks to our Premier Sponsor Mid-City Supply. Their continued support has helped us pull this off yet another year. Our special word of health. We have been closely working with the departments of health and our state and local governments to create the healthiest and safest Parade possible. Health concerns and mandates continually evolve, and our commitment will be to move and stay current with these instructions. At the time of printing this book we are already putting in place strict sanitation guidelines for the homes, special disinfecting areas, density guidelines, and general spacing requirements for each home. Sanitation will be provided by each builder, but masks and other PPE’s should be brought by you, the attendant. It is our belief that you are in full control of your health and we gladly partner with you. As a final thought, I am so glad to be a part of the Elkhart County Builders Association. They have rallied to serve so many families behind the scenes and continued to work from a safe place to make sure this community is taken care of. These acronyms represent EDUCATIONAL DESIGNATIONS the builder and remodeler has achieved to improve his/her understanding of the construction industry. They represent many hours of continuing education. The Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards provide, for the first time ever, new homebuyers and remodeling customers a way to measure their builder and the project against an industry approved set of standards. These Standards have been developed as a service to the new home consumers and remodeling customers. These Standards create a series of performance standards that builders and customers can use to communicate and understand other’s expectations regarding building/ sizable residential home remodeling projects ($5000.00 or more). The Standards address the most prevalent issues that arise between the builder and the customer before the

project, during the project, and most importantly, after the project is completed. All too often it is the unrealized or undiscovered expectations that create the majority of the problems encountered in the building/remodeling process. The Standards will help eliminate these problems before the project even begins. The Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards provide you with the confidence that professionals in the industry are handling your project. Make sure your builder or remodeler is a member of the Builders Association of Elkhart County and a Standards Builder and/or Standards Remodeler and be sure that you request your Standards manual at contract signing or at closing.

CGP Certified Green Professional is for single family builders, multifamily builders, remodelers, developers, land planners, architects and designers, energy raters, home inspectors, utilities staff, product manufacturer and supplier.

CAPS Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist is a professional designation designed to expand your understanding of the aging-in-place market, provide the necessary technical knowledge and resources, and give tools to gain access to the market.

ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.

Certified Graduate Remodelers is an exclusive professional designation program designed to increase a remodeler’s professional credibility by identifying those who demonstrate exceptional business integrity, competence, and a solid track record of consumer satisfaction.

Certified Graduate Builder is an exclusive professional designation designed to emphasize business and project management skills as the key to a professional building operation.

Graduate Master Builder is the highest professional designation awarded to builders. These courses are more advanced with in-depth instruction geared for experienced building professionals. This designation will enhance credibility as a reliable source of information.
