Exciting pop art show featuring legendary Mark Ryden coming to Malaga despite museum tensions

Rolling clone ROLLING Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has revealed a Picasso-inspired painting that he hopes would have ‘shocked’ the Spanish master. The 71-yearold British rocker titled his work featuring Mick Jagger, Abstract Stones, inspired by the Malaga artist’s The Three Dancers. “Looking at the original, I was inspired to do my own take featuring the boys,” the London-born father-of-six said. After attending art school in the 1960s, Wood has turned countless celebrities into portraits, including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jim Morrison and Madonna.

MALAGA Town Hall has announced a new pop art exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Art (CAC) despite an ongoing management crisis. The venue, which has recently seen a takeover by the town hall, is set to host the event from mid-May to the end of June. American painter Mark Ryden, a prolific figure of the 1970s Pop Surrealist movement, is one of dozens of the international talents to be exhibited at the show.

IRONS: Give me Goya

BRITISH actor Jeremy Irons has revealed he ‘would like to play Goya’ during a speech at the Barcelona Film Festival. The Dead Ringers star, 70, made the comments while introducing the documentary, Painters and Kings of the Prado, an in-depth look at the Madrid gallery. The classically trained Os-

featuring Tyler The Creator, Katy Perry and Nick Cave, among others. Ryden, whose previous CAC exhibition was the most popular ever at the gallery, with 102,800 visitors, will be joined by KAWS, James Jarvis, Erik Parker, Hajime Sorayama and more. One of the main highlights of the show will be work by London-born Jarvis, an illustrator, toy designer and pioneer of the soft vinyl designer toy revolution. It comes after a row broke out at the CAC, as 17 staff from its Oleo restaurant were sacked, while 22 workers have denounced the town hall over contract disputes. The Ayuntamiento takeover prompted employees to issue a joint statement, in which they accuse city chiefs of ‘violating their rights’ by leaving them out of contract negotiations.
