Five decades of art By Helen Tatchell

Bacchus Marsh Rotary 2022 Art Show Winners

Bacchus Marsh Rotary Club 2022 Art Show It was their 50th year in presenting local art shows, and whilst COVID provided a few setbacks, 2022 will be remembered as the golden anniversary. A sneak peak and first in line to buy some artwork, was held on the Friday night preceding the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, with a good sized crowd and a fairly long queue to purchase a favourite piece. The Bacchus Marsh Rotary Club held their annual event, in the public hall with Chairperson of the Art Show Keith Currie, saying it was lovely to have crowds back. “This event should have been in 2021,” he said. “This art show is the longest running art show in regional Victoria and, one of the longest running ones in Australia. “After a three year (COVID) hiatus, it has been a joy to watch the artists bring in their artwork.” Mr Currie said money raised from the event goes back into the Rotary Art Show, local projects and one particular international project in Vietnam. A cheque was also presented to the Bacchus Marsh SES for their volunteer efforts in the community, for the art show, putting up and removing all the stands in the hall. “Without the continued support and sponsorship from Council and local businesses, we would not be able to continue and put on this event,” Mr Currie said. “The artists and the artwork; I’m never ceased to be amazed by the incredible talent, which has been reflected in the judge’s comments.” The judge for 2022 was Beckett Rozentals (NGV Curator of Australia Art to 1980), and Peter Kay (sec) read her comments. “The standard here, particularly for a regional art show was very good, I’m amazed with the variety of paintings, and how good some of the small paintings were. Don’t have to have big paintings to be good”, she said. Over $50,000 of artwork as sold at the golden anniversary event.
