Scouts chip in

By Lachlan Ellis Local Scouts have rolled up their sleeves and helped Moorabool Shire Council deliver around 30 cubic metres of free firewood, for vulnerable residents in need. The firewood was recovered from fallen trees from the major storm in June 2021, and was delivered to residents in the shire by the 1st Ballan Scouts. Tony Bellette from the 1st Ballan Scouts coordinated the effort, which he said took most of the day on Saturday 26 February. “We met at the Hall at about 10 o’clock and got to the first house at about 10:15. “When the people came out, they were very grateful and kept thanking the kids, they were very appreciative. This is what Scouts is about, service is a big component of Scouts. If Council do it again, we’re happy to put our hand up,” he said.

There were 15 Scouts who put their hand up to be a part of the delivery effort. “We had Joeys, Cubs and Scouts take part from the ages of 6 to 14. A couple of the kids thought it was a little boring at first, but we made it fun for them. They were very happy to support the community,” he said. “It wasn’t really until we got there with some of the kids, and we explained ‘We’re doing this because they’re elderly
