Hair styled by dads
e Council By Lachlan Ellis
Two trial workshops have shown Moorabool dads the ins and outs of doing their daughters’ hair, from perfect ponytails to beautiful ballet buns – allowing many dads to progress past the basics. Hosted by Moorabool Libraries and presented by award-winning local hair stylist Renee Tuitaalili, the ‘Dads & Daughters Hair Styles Workshops’ were run at Bacchus Marsh Library last week. Daniel Muldeary is one of the dads who signed up, and said he was grateful for the opportunity to improve his skills, and in turn, improve his relationship with his daughters. “I do my daughters’ hair most mornings, but I’m not good at it – I can only do a basic ponytail or a very poor-quality plait. I have two daughters, one of them is two, so I’m going to have to do their hair for many years,” he told the Moorabool News with a chuckle. One of the main reasons Mr Muldeary booked was to improve the bond with his daughters. “The eldest loves having her hair done, it’s a big novelty, she’s a real girly girl. She wants to wear dresses and have her hair done…I think it’ll definitely improve our relationship.” Moorabool Libraries is considering holding more sessions in both Bacchus Marsh and Ballan, prior to the commencement of the 2022 school year, depending on community interest. And Mr Muldeary, for one, backs the running of more hair style workshops wholeheartedly. “My eldest was so excited to take part in the night. These workshops are a great idea, there’s not much like them around…I think the more, the better. It’d give more people the opportunity to attend,” he said. Renee Tuitaalili said it had been rewarding to present the workshops, and teach local dads a skill they may never have tried before. “I love teaching people…I’ve been doing hairdressing for 25 years, so I’ve taught a lot of people. I enjoy teaching the dads – some of them have no idea, so it’s great to teach them something new,” Ms Tuitaalili said. Following the session, each dad & daughter pair received a Certificate of Styling Excellence, and a Hair Care Gift Bag containing some beautiful hair styling accessories.
