Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Results – Saturday 20 November The Centre held their Official Season Opening at Masons Lane Reserve. Former BMLAC athlete and current Port Adelaide AFL footballer, Zak Butters was special guest. President, Maria Downes welcomed everyone to the Opening, thanking all sponsors for supporting the Centre and wished all athletes the best of luck for the 2021/22 season. Maria then introduced Zak to members, acknowledging his progress from little aths and into the AFL. The 2021/22 Centre captains were announced - Danielle Ide and Braydn Rich were then presented by Zak with their Captain badges and certificates. Once all the formalities of the Opening had concluded competition was underway. In only the second week of competition an amazing 242 Personal Best results were recorded. Lachlan Simons led the way, recording 5 PBs for the meet. Lincoln Braszell recorded a new Centre record in the Boys Under 16 Long Jump, leaping a whopping 5.56 metres. Registration numbers continue to grow, and new athletes are always welcome to a two week free trial offer. Training seasons will be held every Thursday. Under 6-9 athletes will train at 4.30pm and Under 10-16 athletes will commence training at 5pm.

Former Little Ath - Zak Butters By Maria Downes
“Zak was a past member at the Bacchus Marsh Little Athletics Centre and competed for the Eagles Club from Under 11s (2010) until Under 14s (2013). In 2018 Zak was drafted to the Port Adelaide Football Club, selected as the 12th draft pick, being picked up from the Western Jets/Darley Football Clubs. Zak plays as a midfielder/forward player for Port Adelaide. In his second year with the Power, Zak rocketed himself into the All-Australian squad of 40 after a super consistent season. In 2020 Zak was awarded the Gavin Wanganeen Medal. This medal is awarded to the club’s best performing AFL player under the age of 21. He also placed 4th in Port’s Best & Fairest. In the same season Zak was announced in the AFL players association Under 22 team. A remarkable season. Unfortunately, Zak had an interrupted 2021 season after ankle and knee injuries putting his season on hold. But the grit and determination, as well as hard work on his rehab Zak returned to the game earlier than expected and participated in this year’s finals series. After that injury interrupted year, Zak has set his sights on more midfield time for Port Adelaide in 2022 and he is using the off-season to improve his running and get stronger. We wish Zak all the best for another successful season with the Power.”
Results – Saturday 27 November Although cool and a little windy on Saturday morning, Bacchus Marsh Little Athletes recorded some terrific results for the meet. Bridie Shanahan broke her third record for the season; this week claiming the Under 16 Discus record. All Bridie’s three throws bettered the previous record, and a final throw of 30.97 metres set a new season record. At the completion of competition Cross Country athletes and family members gathered for their end of season Cross Country awards, which had unfortunately been delayed due to Covid restrictions. Athletes from the Melton, Gisborne and Werribee Centre also attended the presentations after a successful season for the Bacchus Marsh Centre which included athletes from all these Centres participating. Junior Girls Champion was awarded to Anni Clarke whilst the Champion Boy was won by Melton’s Harry Wark. The Intermediate awards were presented to Melton athletes, Balreet Kaur and Rajkamal singh Virk. The Senior Champions were awarded to Mackenzie Estlick and Zane Rich. Encouragement awards were presented to Cindy Hawken, Lynch Pillay, Sophia Butler, Jajhar Dhaliwa, Kira Watts and Samuel White. Special run shields were presented to Anna Seymour, Oliver (25 runs), Deegan Doyle, Imogen Lidgett-Egan, James Burton and Tyrah Doyle (50 runs), Braydn Rich (75 runs) and Zane Rich (100 runs). All qualified Cross Country athletes were awarded with a participation trophy. ***

BMLAC members Nicholas Mai, Bridie Shanahan, Emma Stewart and Nicholas Ide have all been named in the 2021/22 Victorian Little Athletics Junior Development Squad (JDS). JDS gives U12–U16 athletes an opportunity to develop additional skills and improve technical competencies through participation in coaching and training sessions with some of Victoria’s leading coaches. ***

The Centre Combined Event will be held this Saturday 8.30am at Masons Lane. All registered athletes will compete in five events (hurdles, sprint, distance, discus & long jump) gaining points in each event. All five events must be competed in to have completed the Combined Event. If one event is not competed in, that athlete will be deemed ineligible to win an award. Presentations will be made the following week. Trophies are awarded to the winners of each age group, with medals for second and third. All athletes will receive a Certificate of Participation.
