Cla s s Notes 1961 Class Agent: Cappy Markle

Alasdair Stewart reports: “In July, our Queen visited our town of Peebles, Scotland, and I was amongst those selected and honored to have been presented to her. It was an excellent day and a memorable occasion.”

1962 Class Agent Needed Richard Foster ’59 and his wife, Margaret, are so happy to finally be grandparents to little Henry Jones, born on June 30, 2013, to their daughter Susan and husband, Tim Jones. Richard’s son-in-law, Andrew West, the astronomer, hiked with him in Baxter Park and on Katahdin, Northeast Piscataquis, ME, last August, and they visually bagged a moose. Lowrey Heaver has been invited to play for TEAM USA, 60+ Division, at the Lacrosse World Cup games to be held in Denver, CO, next July. “I’m definitely the ‘plus’ part for sure as I’ll be 73 by the time the games roll around. Hope I can still walk let alone run. May have to wear rib pads since I lost a kidney to cancer in January. Never worn anything but arm pads for the last 50 some years.”

Tom and Nita Martin spent a week in Kauai, Hawaii in October. Nita’s sister, Denise Dunn, and her husband, Aaron, joined them. Tom and Aaron each celebrated a birthday while there by playing golf, partying, and sightseeing. Tom and Nita looked forward to the Christmas holidays, when their son, Eric, and his family visited. Eric stopped en route to his new duty station at Barksdale AFB, LA.

1963 Class Agent: Drew Jackson Bill Richards has joined the board of The Jamestown Foundation in Washington, DC. He also was named Professor with Distinction at IE University in Madrid, Spain. He teaches there in the Master of Finance program, which The Financial Times ranks “top 3” in the world.

Maurice Heckscher mentions: “I am the proud grandfather of grandchild number seven, August Carl Vengels, born recently to daughter Kellen Ann (Heckscher) Vengels ’97 and husband, Dave, their second boy.”

Ed Vick ’62 was in the broadcasting booth on Fox TV at the Veterans Day 2013 parade on 5th Avenue, New York City.

Save the Date 50th Reunion May 2 & 3, 2014 John Langdon reports: “I gave a TEDx talk at Drexel University on October 5, 2013. The subject was the relationship between major changes in typesetting technology and the appearance of horrible new fonts.”
