DREAM DESTINATIONS
ON FIJI TIME Discover the beauty of Lomani Island Resort – an adults-only Fijian paradise. WORDS ANGELA ORAM OUR FIRST INTERNATIONAL HOLIDAY after the last two and a half years of, well you know what, was always going to be filled with anticipation, adventure and lots of rejuvenation. What I wasn’t expecting was so many pinchyourself moments and an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for the natural beauty so close to our own shores. For years friends have shared their stories of escapes to tropical Fijian islands, snorkelling off the beach and reaching a level of relaxation that we rarely allow ourselves. This time it was our turn and a short 3-hour flight from Brisbane with Fiji Airways got us on our way.

We were heading to Lomani Island Resort on Malolo Lailai Island in the Mamanuca Islands, and we were in no way prepared for the beauty and hospitality that was awaiting us. Lomani Island Resort is an adults-only retreat with just 30 bures and suites, all with breathtaking ocean views and beach access. I know I had you at ‘adults-only’ but let’s continue on. Singing staff, ice cold coconut drinks and the most amazing ocean view you can imagine greeted us on arrival at the resort. Think palm trees swaying in the soft breeze, beautiful white sand melting into clear blue water and warmth soaking into your skin, we were in heaven.
The resort is perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation with daybeds, sunlounges and hammocks scattered throughout the beautifully kept grounds, on the beach and by the pool. The boutique nature of the accommodation means there’s no rushing to a secure your favourite spot and the ample space makes it perfect for social distancing or enjoying a little alone time. If you’re like us and you feel the need to explore and immerse yourself in the culture, aka wear yourself out, before disappearing under a cabana, there are plenty of activities on offer. You can snorkel, kayak, SUP, join in a dolphin safari, guided village tour or basket weaving. >>
