The new Nineteen Sanctuary Cove’s Café Nineteen has undergone a stylish revamp. Now under the ownership of seasoned restaurateur Glenys Pitkin, the new look Café Nineteen, in the heart of The Marine Village, embraces the Coast’s emerging café culture, with a fresh fit-out and furniture giving the much-loved establishment a breath of fresh air. “I’ve always loved entertaining people, it’s one of my passions and I think that really shines through in Café Nineteen,” Glenys said. “I really enjoy the challenge of running a business and seeing something thrive. “I’ve been a long term Sanctuary Cove resident and I love café hopping in The Marine Village, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to take Café Nineteen to the next level.” Glenys, who also works as a real estate agent in the area, has returned to The Marine Village retail precinct, having owned another nearby establishment – Café St Tropez – until 2004. “In taking the reins at Café Nineteen, I was working with an already established and well-liked venue, so my attention was focused on building on the business, giving it a fresh look and making some tweaks to improve the dining experience.

“The café’s original owner is an avid golfer, hence the name Nineteen after the rest break surrounding the nineteenth hole.” Staying true to its namesake, Café Nineteen offers patrons a relaxing dining experience with a large outdoor area surrounded by greenery and an air-conditioned indoor dining room with light, contemporary décor. As well as regular breakfast and lunch services, Café Nineteen now opens for evening trade, serving dinner until 7pm on weekends. “There is very little on offer for those who want an early, relaxed dinner at a reasonable price,” Glenys said. “Our weekend evening trade will cater to casual diners looking to enjoy a light meal.” The menu too has received some attention, with gluten free desserts now available and different produce introduced for fresher, tastier meals. “We have a range of light and healthy options for mid-week lunching, including our salads which are made fresh daily,” Glenys said.

Other new options include a breakfast pizza and pulled pork rolls, BBQ ribs and burgers. Not underestimating the importance of a good brew – particularly to the growing workforce in The Village – Café Nineteen serves Veneziano coffee, a brand that sources and roasts a range of blends made from globally sourced beans. “Coffee is serious business, and in the café world it can make or break you,” Glenys said. With the revised menu and range of improvements, Glenys hopes the new Café Nineteen will remain a favourite among locals. “Nearly half our trade is local, and they’re the ones who have been around and tried the competition,” she said. “To see customers frequently returning is very comforting and tells us we’re ticking the right boxes.” The new-look Café Nineteen also caters for events, including birthday celebrations and small casual weddings, and will design a menu with the client to suit their requirements.
