SPORTS & FITNESS Golf:

GOLF SECTION HAPPENINGS By Nic Merrow-Smith Hot News - ISCGT 2016 1st Leg For the first time in our history, we will be hosting the Inter-Social Club Golf Tournament (ISCGT) at Raffles Country Club on Friday 11th March. We welcome over 90 golfers from six social clubs including Serangoon Gardens Country Club, Singapore Recreation Club, Singapore Swimming Club, Chinese Swimming Club, The Eurasian Association and Changi Beach Club. This is a fun competition and although we haven’t had much success in the past, I’m sure we can put out squad to make some waves. This is open to all Club Golfers, so please lock that Friday afternoon in your diary and help us show our hospitality. We are encouraged to put out a team off 16 golfers. You may also sign-up for the social flights if you just want to come along, play golf and show your support. Thank you.

Monthly Stableford Prizes New for 2016, our Monthly Stableford competitors will be vying for a chance to celebrate within the Club’s F&B establishments. If we maintain your handicap, or you or your guest have a current USGA or equivalent handicap, you are entitled to any prize. If not, then only to the novelty prizes. If your guests wins a prize, then you will need to bring him along to the Club and share his prize; doubling your chances of winning something. So bring more guests! Winners will receive a voucher for 2 to dine at The Mountbatten whilst the runner-up gets to drown his sorrows at the Windsor Arms. Our novelty prize (Nearest the Pin) winners will also be visiting the Windsor Arms or Scores.

The Force Awakens: January Stableford brings even more grief!

What a traumatic start to the year! Really, Kylo Ren himself must have been out on the course to choose the pin positions for our January outing. By the 10th hole, all but Oliver Stoffel had capitulated and fallen prey to Seletar’s pin placements. Our congratulations to Oliver who used his generous handicap allowance for the last time, to secure 40 points and win the January Stableford by a country mile. He will be dining at The Mountbatten restaurant for his efforts. Abhijit Patwardhan joined us for the first time in almost a year to secure not one but both the Nearest the Pin awards and Runner-up spot. No sign of the slice, duff shots and the usual rubbish that comes with playing either too much or not enough golf. He tells me his calamities on the course almost forced him to give up the game last year. It was great to see some new faces too, with Rohit Shah (cricket) and Trevor Haeger (tennis) joining us for the first time.
