Dr. John Lusins P S YC H I AT RY Dr. John Lusins has earned a reputation as one of the Coastal Bend’s leading voices in psychiatric care. A board-certified psychiatrist and founding member of South Texas Mental Health Associates, Dr. Lusins has dedicated his career to improving the lives of individuals affected by major depression, anxiety, and other complex mental health conditions. His clinical insight, leadership, and advocacy have made him a driving force in expanding access to high-quality behavioral health services across South Texas. Dr. Lusins began his academic journey with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Connecticut College, followed by both a Master of Science and a Doctor of Medicine from American University of the Caribbean. He went on to complete his psychiatric residency and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at West Virginia University Hospitals, solidifying his expertise in both clinical and legal aspects of mental health. Over the past decade, Dr. Lusins has held multiple high-impact leadership roles across the region, including serving as President of the Medical Staff at Christus Spohn’s Corpus Christi Medical Center (2023–2025), Medical Director of Psychiatry at Oceans Healthcare, Christus Spohn Hospitals, and Bayview Behavioral Hospital, and Director of Behavioral Health at both Gulf Coast Behavioral Center and the Nueces County Jail. A strong believer in compassionate care and system-level change, Dr. Lusins is also a dedicated family man. He is married to Dr. Sophia Ommani, a respected OB/GYN at Coastal Bend Women’s Center, and they are proud parents to three daughters. With active offices in San Antonio and Edinburg, Dr. Lusins is excited to expand his impact even further with the opening of a new, state-of-the-art behavioral health clinic in Corpus Christi at 1321 Glenoak Drive, slated for January 2026.
