Oct. 9, 1934, marked the beginning of a legacy. Welcome to The Appalachian’s 90th anniversary special issue as we celebrate 90 years of serving our community! From weekly to monthly print editions, to online content and interactive graphics, and even newsletters and social media posts, our publication has grown and adapted over the years and has worked to deliver news and be a forum for our readers over the decades. Throughout this paper is a mix of current stories and stories paying homage to our publication and community’s history. To the right is an editor’s note from our first issue. We are proud to share how far we’ve come since then. We thank our staff and our readers over the years for making this all possible. Jenna Guzman | Editor-in-Chief Boonie comic by Yakira Gurganus
