Tom Scheuren already had a master’s degree and years of experience in his field before deciding to start over. Tom Scheuren, MSN ’21, BSN ’16 Tom Scheuren graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and secondary education in 1999 before pursuing a Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology soon after. From there, he spent a decade in higher education fulfilling roles in student affairs. However, he noticed a troubling trend as he continued to work up the ladder.

“I absolutely loved my time in higher education, but I came to the realization that, as I would take on more administrative jobs, I
was increasingly losing direct contact with our students,” he explained. “Over time, I started to lose sight of what sort of impact I was making on them, so I decided to make a change to a profession where I could have a solid sense of the influence and meaning of my work.” That began Scheuren’s journey into the nursing profession.
