A Family Business

Terrie met her beloved husband Thomas O’Connor when they were both living and working in London and were married there. Their careers brought them back stateside, and after living in New Hampshire and Illinois, they settled in Upper Saddle River in 1976. There they raised their four children: Catherine (Katy), Matthew (Matt), Joseph (Joe), and DeNelle (Nellie). Terrie and her family have all remained in the Northwest Bergen County area. She currently lives in the Saddle River Grand community in Saddle River. Matt, Katy, and Nellie all call Upper Saddle River home, and Joe lives in neighboring Waldwick. Three of Terrie’s four children have followed her into real estate and work at Terrie O’Connor Realtor's (TOCR). Nellie currently provides corporate strategic planning for a major national health care company. Nellie and her husband Samer Khattab are raising two young daughters, Callie (6) and Gabriella (2).

Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, Terrie has lived all around the world. As both the daughter and wife of US Naval Officers, Terrie has enjoyed life in Malta, Hawaii and London. Entertaining is a favorite passion of hers, and she enjoys sharing her New Orleans roots by serving oysters, fried chicken, e´touffe´e, red beans and rice, and spicy jambalaya. Family has always been an important part of her life. A few years ago, she was able to purchase a historic Victorian home “down the shore” in Ocean Grove. The whole brood meets up there for long weekends at the beach filled with good food and fun in the sun. Since much of the gang has inherited musical talents, most evenings end with impromptu jam sessions and singing. Terrie has been taking virtual guitar lessons since the holidays so she can join in the fun. Terrie loves real estate, and has no plans to stop any time soon. Terrie is in the office each day working with her executive team to strategize the company’s growth and answering calls from her agents. Outside of the office, Terrie serves as a Board Member with the Holy Name Medical Center Foundation, The Council for Hospice at Villa Marie Claire, and Commerce and Industry of New Jersey. Terrie is currently a Trustee for REALTOR® Cares of Greater Bergen REALTORS®. She was the first woman to serve as President and Chairperson of the Builders Association of Northern New Jersey and is a former steering committee member of Habitat for Hummanity’s “Women Raise the Roof” that built several homes in Paterson. I met with Terrie and three of her children in the conference room of their Ramsey Corporate Office. They enjoy such an easy banter with one another and seem to get along so well. I commented on this, since not all families can work so harmoniously with one another. “Yes,” said Terrie, “We truly enjoy being together and collaborating to grow our family company. Each one provides a unique perspective that collectively has contributed to our success.”
