Back to health With Rupert Pusey joining the family practice AG Pusey Associates, Mid Sussex can look forward to another 30 years of outstanding osteopathic care.
Perhaps it was written in the stars, but with both parents working as osteopaths, Rupert Pusey (pictured above) always knew osteopathy was his vocation. “I grew up with osteopathy,” he tells me, “and so had first-hand experience of the benefits it offers. At school, I played a lot of rugby and would often end a game smashed up. Luckily, my parents were brilliant at patching me up and Dad even taught me some basic manipulations.” This informal training was soon built upon when Rupert went to study at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine. Rupert’s four years of training also involved studying naturopathy, meaning he is also qualified to give nutritional advice to supplement any osteopathic therapy. Although osteopathy is often thought to be just for back and neck pain, this gentle but effective treatment can help treat a wide range of conditions, from headaches to sleep problems and sports injuries. What’s more, as 21st century lifestyles often include
high stress factors and long hours sitting in front of computer screens, a monthly session of osteopathy can be used as a preventative measure to straighten us out, boost wellbeing and ensure our bodies are working at their optimum level. As a large group practice, AG Pusey Associates’ patients benefit from a team of professionals with differing specialities, along with commuter-friendly hours from 8am to 8pm weekdays and from 9am to 6pm on Saturdays. For those unable to visit the clinic, home visits can be arranged. For those visiting Awbrook Lodge, a treat is in store: patients can enjoy the beautiful tranquil setting, ample parking and such a warm and friendly reception, it feels like you’re visiting an old friend. Having joined the practice last year, Rupert loves his new job. “There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a patient hobble in and then literally jump off the couch after being treated. When I’ve helped someone who’s been in a lot of pain, I thank my lucky stars that I do this job – it’s so rewarding!”

literally jump off the couch after treatment. Rupert also feels fortunate to be working alongside his mother, Julia Brooks. “I’m working with her, not for her, and that’s the key,” he explains. “There’s so much to learn and she has so much to give in terms of experience, that it works brilliantly.”
