Message From The

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Welcome to Cost of Living! Martyna Majok’s Pulitzer Prize-winning script is a beautiful, intimate story about our connections to one another. I was so moved by it when I first read it, that I knew I wanted to share it with Citadel audiences. It is such a human story, that explores the space where bodies – on the spectrum of abled and disabled – meet each other. Cost of Living continues our commitment to ensure the Citadel is a place where everyone belongs. In preparation for this production, we received a Canadian Heritage grant to undergo renovations to make our building more accessible for actors and patrons who use mobility aids (such as walkers and wheelchairs). And this month we’re hosting an Exchange event about disability in the arts, in an effort to connect with, and learn from, our colleagues who identify as disabled.

It is such a pleasure to welcome director Ashlie Corcoran, Artistic Director of Vancouver’s Arts Club Theatre Company, back to the Citadel (Ashlie most recently directed our production of Mamma Mia!). This is a co-production with the Arts Club, where it played earlier this season. Our thanks to the Arts Club for their partnership on this production. And our thanks to you for joining us for this important play. We announce our 2020-21 Season on January 27th! We’ve got lots of exciting shows lined up next season, and can’t wait to share them with you! Enjoy the show! Sincerely, Daryl Cloran, Artistic Director

We wish to acknowledge that the land on which we gather is Treaty No. 6 territory

and a traditional meeting ground and home of the First Nations, including both the treaty signatories – Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stony and Cree-Iroquois – as well as other Indigenous peoples, such as the Blackfoot and Métis, who occupied this land. We extend our appreciation for the opportunity to live, create, and perform on this territory.
