ect schedule, within budget and with zero serious HSSE incidents. The existing branching units placed on the seabed enable fiber connectivity with much shorter fiber routes than by going to shore. Full redundancy over divergent routes has been delivered – either on fiber or through one radio link hop to a secondary fiber path. Whereas most of these fields would have to undertake projects with cable lengths in the region of 250-300km for redundant fiber connectivity each, Tampnet has been able to offer the same with cable installed distances from 35100km per asset. The fiber projects are offered as turnkey projects whereby Tampnet takes full responsibility for the actual fiber project from its branching unit to the topside telecom equipment room. We get involved as early as possible in the engineering phase, in order to optimize the methodology for connecting the fiber top-
side. By getting involved with subsea engineering resources and the project team, other subsea structures and subsea activities near the Oil/Gas asset can be taken into account to optimize the way of connecting well in advance of the actual fiber project. The overall cost for the project is significantly reduced as the length of new fiber required is normally reduced by 80% or more. Also – further synergies can be reaped as new field developments in the same region can be tied into the same fiber project. The perfect example of this is the connection of the Gina Krog, Edvard Grieg and Ivar Aasen fields in the North Sea. Three different field developments operated by three different oil companies connected in a single fiber installation campaign. These fiber projects represent an expansion of Tampnet’s overall infrastructure – which in turn may open up future opportunities.
