Thriving through lockdown
Legs on show
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past two years, it’s to expect the unexpected, and the better we deal with change and ambiguity, the superior our wellbeing. Regular, significant changes have been tough because humans need stability. Resilience research has identified the steps we can learn to bounce through restrictions, distancing, and ever-changing times. The prescription for thriving through lockdowns includes: • Maintain a positive, optimistic attitude. • Reframe negative, stressful thoughts. • Remind yourself what’s important. • Connect with resilient role models. • Face your fears and learn about yourself. • Develop sustainable coping skills. • Establish and nurture supportive social networks. • Prioritise your physical wellbeing. • Stimulate your brain by quality self-help reading. • Always play to your strengths. It’s only through getting better at reflecting on feelings, thoughts, and behaviours that you can change them and increase resilience.
Living in Brisbane we are very fortunate to have a climate that means we can wear shorts or skirts across the seasons! For those living with noticeable veins on their legs, their choice of clothing is limited as they can feel self-conscious about their appearance and so chose to hide them under trousers or maxis. For others, they might not have issues with the look, but instead suffer from symptoms such as aching, swelling, and restless leg. Which can often be exasperated during the heat of summer making our Queenslander lifestyle something to be dreaded rather than enjoyed. Regardless of if the procedures were medical or cosmetic initially, when patients attend their final review following the successful conclusion of treatment, we often hear it said that they wished they had come in years ago! Being proactive about your venous health and booking a consultation can help avoid future skin damage, or it may give you the confidence to ditch the sarong this year at Noosa!
