Spider veins are red, varicose veins are blue. If you have either, here is what you can do! Spider veins are considered to be cosmetic and retreatment is usually required every few years. Varicose veins on the other hand are larger bluish veins, often they can become “ropey” and protrude from the skin. They are predominantly treated using ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy and the larger ones may require endovenous laser ablation. These newer procedures replace surgical stripping and allow patients to be treated without the need for hospitalisation and a general anaesthetic.
