A master lighthouse keeper, a mechanic and three lighthouse keepers with their families lived on the rocky island. The population was at its peak at the end of the 1930s when 32 adults and children lived here. The lighthouse was renovated to its former glory
by entrepreneurial couple Paula och Per Wilson. They have kept the lighthouse open for visitors ever since. Bengtskär has a lighthouse museum, cafe with souvenir shop and hotel and conference facilities for 24 people. You can reach the lighthouse during the summer by passenger boat. One route departs from Kasnäs, regular tours are also available from Örö, Rosala, Hanko and Turku.
