RICO MCCOY Varsity Linebacker Coach
Seasons Coaching at St. John’s:1 High School: St. John’s (DC) College: Tennessee
Rico McCoy
Coach McCoy returns to his alma mater, where he earned All-American and First-Team All-Met honors as a linebacker. He was the Cadets’ leading tackler and was named captain of the Army All-American Game, which aired on NBC. A highly coveted college recruit, Coach McCoy eventually chose Tennessee over Ohio State. He finished his Tennessee career ranked as one of their top five tacklers of all-time. His career solo tackles also ranked him in the top five of all-time in the SEC. Coach McCoy also led the SEC in solo tackles and forced fumbles during his senior season. He spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Edmonton Eskimos before returning to the DC area. As a student at St. John’s, Coach McCoy was named the Mush Dubofsky Award winner for 2004, joining an elite fraternity of St. John’s football players. He was also named Gatorade Player of the Year for DC.
TED ELSASSER Kicking Coach
Seasons Coaching at St. John’s: 2 High School: Englewood School for Boys (NJ) College: Rutgers, Medical University of South Carolina (PhD) Coach Elsasser returns for his second season as the kicking and punting coach for the St. John’s program. In his first season, he guided Peter Rosa to first-team all-conference honors. Coach Elsasser also serves as the lead instructor in the Kick and Punt Camp that St. John’s puts on for 6th through 9th graders during the last week in June. Coach Elsasser’s son, Matt (SJC Class of 2010), earned first-team all-conference honors at St. John’s. As a junior, Matt kicked four field goals with time running out. He was named captain by his peers for his senior season. Coach Elsasser previously coached special teams, including kicking and punting, at Pallotti High School. He and his wife Marian live in Berwyn Heights, Md.
