MY PLACE Kelli Brogan was advised against pursuing her songwriting passion and told she wasn’t any good at it. Yet the Melton singer is now a recording artist who writes her own material and will soon release an EP. She speaks with Sumeyya Ilanbey.
for the past 15 years with a Christmas lights display that has won best lights display in Melton and has featured on the front page of local newspapers. What’s your favourite thing about living in Melton? I love the country-style atmosphere of the town, while still having the luxury and convenience of the large town shopping facilities. Melton has superb sporting facilities, an amazing events complex with Tabcorp Park and fantastic live performance events throughout each year, like the tribute shows, Morning Melodies, local talent events, the Djerriwarrah Festival and Carols by Candlelight.

What would you change about the area if you could?
What’s your connection to Melton? I have lived in Melton my entire life. I completed all my schooling here – at St Dominic’s Primary School and Catholic Regional College and
Wilson Park Secondary College. I have been involved in dance schools, local community groups and performed at many local events throughout the years, including singing the theme song for the Westlake’s
Estate commercial. I had fun when I was a teenager participating in the song contests, talent quests and the Youth of the Year, where I was runner-up. My family celebrates Christmas every year,
I think the main challenge in Melton is the lack of parking. This often happens when areas have such growth like Melton has over the years. In the CBD, at the shopping centre, around schools and parks, no matter where I go I always feel like we need more parking spaces and areas. Where’s your favourite place to hang out in Melton? My favourite place to hang out in Melton is Jolly Miller – they make the best soy hot chocolates! Woodgrove Shopping Centre is another favourite. I love to shop, and Woodgrove has such a huge variety of stores, eateries and
