History on a plate Beaconsfield's Corner Post Cafe mixes the vibrant beauty of the town's history with gourmet food and excellent coffee. Built in 1878, the building was originally the town's Post Office and operated as such until 2001. Much of the original building is still intact today; a feature which store owner Stewart Saw says contributes to the cafe's homely setting. "This cafe offers a different setting to sit with friends or family and enjoy a meal and coffee," Stewart explained. "It has both indoor and outdoor seating and because it's an old house, you can sit in different rooms instead of (just) one." Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. With recent renovations to the clubhouse and continual improvements to the 27 hole layout, the course and facilities have never looked better. Five of the fairways on the Lakes Nine have had couch laid and the Hills Course has had new cart paths installed, new drains laid and several bunkers renovated. Footgolf - golf that is played with a soccer ball into a large hole - has been up and running for three years now and proves a hit with the kids during school holidays. It’s also a pop-
ular activity for groups looking for something different to do to celebrate an occasion or a fun way to work on some fitness. With the weather warming up, the staff at Cardinia Beaconhills are ready for a busy summer with many local businesses holding Christmas functions at the course. Functions can include a game of golf or footgolf, followed by a beautiful meal and drinks after the round. Daylight savings also sees the bistro open on Wednesday evenings for a meal after twilight nine hole golf. Sunday sessions with tapas and live music on the deck is also back.
