Caring With Open Hearts, Hands, and Minds
Colorful Collaboration: Connecting With Community to Spread Cheer and Enhance Communication Stanford Medicine Children’s Health connects to the community in many ways. Recently, the Center for Professional Excellence & Inquiry (CPE&I) partnered with two area high school students on colorful projects to beneft patients and staf. When David Clark was deciding on his Eagle Scout project, he knew he wanted to do something that contributed to his community and more specifcally to the hospital that provided him with great care as a
patient. He decided to build and donate over 100 IV Lily Pads, specially designed IV pole bases, to bring cheer to patients during extended hospital stays and help them explore beyond their hospital room while receiving infusions. Hospital nurses and staf, along with community members, helped David decorate the IV pole bases, adding colorful images, including cartoon characters and animals. In total, David presented the hospital with 111 Lily Pads at a ceremony in March 2025.
