EstuvE dE cumplEaños En un viajE a París y lo primero que dije fue “quiero ir a comer pollo asado en Le Grand Colbert (2 Rue Vivienne, 75002), como Diane Keaton en Something´s Gotta Give”. Ahí, la actriz lo calificaba como “el mejor pollo asado del universo” frente a Jack Nicholson. Para allá partimos, a encontrarnos con muchos estadounidenses que, como yo, habían decidido seguir esa pista cinematográfica en la inmensa oferta gastronómica de París. El pollo nos gustó tanto como la excelente y casera Boeuf Bourguignon que comimos al día siguiente en Le Polidor (41 Rue Monsieur-le-Prince, 75006), un restaurante de 1845 –más económico que Le Grand Colbert– en el que Woody Allen decidió recrear el encuentro de Owen Wilson con Ernest Hemingway en Midnight in Paris. Ya metidos en la cosa cinematográfica, no podía faltar la visita al Café des 2 Moulins (15 rue Lepic 75018), un típico café parisino que no tendría mayor relevancia si no hubiera sido escenario de algunas de las escenas más románticas de Amélie. De todas maneras, estas visitas no fueron casualidad. Hace algunos años manejando con mi mejor amiga por la I95 en Connecticut, en el noreste de Estados Unidos, tomamos la salida hacia el pequeño pueblo costero de Mystic, para comer en Mystic Pizza (56 W Main St), el restaurante que da nombre a la película protagonizada por Julia Roberts. Desde ahí, esto de recrear (y probar) escenas se ha convertido en una adicción para mí. Para los fanáticos de la cinta Sleepless in Seattle, imperdible es una parada en el Athenian Inn (1517 Pike Pl) donde Tom Hanks discutía con un amigo sobre cómo era tener citas en los ‘90. El sitio tiene una placa conmemorativa en la mesa donde se filmó la escena, aunque bastante menos atractiva que la del restaurante Katz´s Delicatessen (205 E Houston St) en Nueva York que dice: “esperamos que haya tenido lo que ella tuvo”, rememorando la inolvidable escena de Meg Ryan fingiendo un orgasmo en When Harry Met Sally. Habrá que verlo.

In the film, Keaton tells Jack Nicholson that the place has “the best roast chicken in the universe.” Once at the restaurant, we found ourselves surrounded by Americans who, like me, had been inspired by the film to pick this establishment from the immense array of dining options that Paris has to offer. We loved the chicken just as much as the excellent, home-style Boeuf Bourguignon that we ordered the next day at Le Polidor (41 rue Monsieur-le-Prince), a less pricey restaurant founded in 1845 that Woody Allen chose as the setting for Owen Wilson’s encounter with Ernest Hemingway in Midnight in Paris. With movies on the brain, we just had to stop by Café des 2 Moulins (15 rue Lepic), a typical Parisian café that would have remained unremarkable if it had not been the setting for some of the most romantic scenes in the film Amélie. These film-inspired dining excursions were already a tradition of mine. Several years ago, I was driving with a friend along I-95 in Connecticut, and we stopped in the small coastal town of Mystic to grab a bite at Mystic Pizza (56 W Main Street), the restaurant that lent its name to the film starring Julia Roberts. Since then, I’ve become addicted to visiting restaurants where movies have been filmed, to get a literal taste of the action. Fans of Sleepless in Seattle flock to the Athenian Inn (1517 Pike Place), where Tom Hanks and his friend discussed the dating scene of the 1990s. There is even commemorative plaque on the table where the exchange took place, although it pales in comparison to the sign posted at Katz’s Delicatessen (205 E Houston Street) in New York, which reads: “We hope you have what she’s having,” recalling the unforgettable scene in When Harry Met Sally in which Meg Ryan fakes an orgasm. Why not try it for yourself?
