SEA CADETS: CHOOSE ADVENTURE

At Smart City Networks, our commitment to community extends far beyond the venues we serve. As part of our “We Care and Give Back” initiative, we asked our team members to share stories about the causes they are passionate about and how they dedicate their time to making a difference.

Karl Seeba, General Manager at the Charlotte Convention Center, shares a heartfelt connection to the Naval Sea Cadets, a U.S. Navy-sponsored youth development program. His involvement began when he enrolled his son at age 12. Karl recalls being impressed with the program’s structure, discipline, and the responsibility placed on the cadets, who follow a military command model under the guidance of adult volunteers.

The Sea Cadets offer monthly “drill” meetings, often held at Navy bases, and summer or winter training camps. These camps cover an array of fields, including SCUBA, robotics, aviation, and search and rescue. The program not only builds leadership and physical fitness but also provides scholarships and career advantages for those pursuing military service. For Karl, the Sea Cadets represent a profound opportunity to nurture young talent and instill values of service, discipline, and excellence.
