Enniscorthy’s last hurrah! As Enniscorthy Historical Reenactment Society performed the final Flag Raising Ceremony at Abbey Square on Saturday morning 27th August in glorious autumnal sunshine Chairman and members of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council came together to show their appreciation of the magnificent contribution the voluntary group under Ray Murphy has made to the town in this year of celebration and commemoration. Town Manager Padraig O`Gorman complimented the group saying that they had been involved in every com-
memorative event in the town in 2016, and were always a credit to themselves, their group and to those they represented, adding panache and pageantry to every occasion. He thanked the group for turning out every Saturday morning from June to the end of August to raise the Tricolour, read the Proclamation and sing the National Anthem, saying that it was a major commitment each Saturday morning and the re-enactors had carried out the duties without fail, hail, rain or shine. He then called on Enniscorthy Municipal District
Chairman Oliver Walsh and Re-enactment Chairman Ray Murphy to step forward and present Commemorative Pins to every member of EHRS as a small token of gratitude and appreciation from the Council and the town of Enniscorthy. Former Councillor, Sean Doyle, was called on to raise the flag, and the Proclamation was read by Margaret O’Neill, Jim Wilkinson, Megan and Cillian Murphy and the National Anthem played by piper Liam Doyle before all those present retired to the Riverside Park Hotel for refreshments. – Maria Nolan.
