Opening College Mass and Commissioning & Blessing Ceremony The Opening College Mass and Commissioning & Blessing Ceremony for our new Principal, Mrs Deborah Barker, was a celebration for the St Kevin’s College community. Due to restrictions in place at St Patrick’s Cathedral, the Opening College Mass had to be moved to Smith Hall, so we could maximise the number of invited guests and staff, along with all Year 12 students and a representation of students from Year 1 to Year 11. Former SKC students, Most Reverend Terence Curtain (SKC ’63), Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne, and Reverend Mark Reynolds (SKC ’71), led the celebrations along with friend of the College, Reverend Sasha BermudezGoldman SJ. Our Eucharistic Celebration allowed us to ask God’s blessings on what we are about to undertake this year, to call upon the God of New Beginnings to guide, accompany and celebrate with us a year full of promise and possibility. Our Opening College Mass helps us to celebrate our Catholic Identity and our efforts in all that we do in Catholic Education. We recognise Christ is the light and we want to share that light with the next generation, those who have been
entrusted to our care and to continue the extraordinary mission of helping the next generation walk in the light. The Commissioning and Blessing Ceremony was led by College Captain, Nicholas Baré and Deputy College Captains, Luca Di Conza, Dominic Morelli and Lucas Harrison. Nicholas reminded us our meeting this day was a gathering in the presence of our God, who is the perfect example of community in relationship. Presentations were made to Mrs Barker of a candle, to represents the receiving of light that comes with being a leader in our College community and a College Bible. In presenting of the Word of God, to Mrs Barker, we were invited to pray that she finds comfort and inspiration in the Gospel message and that the word of the Gospel sinks deep into our hearts. The importance of the Word of God here can’t be lost. The mission of SKC is to bring to the young people entrusted to our care the perspective of faith. When we ask, how shall I live, what is the purpose of life, how should I direct my actions, we find our response in Jesus Christ. As Faith Leader of St Kevin’s, Mrs Barker holds at the heart of our being, our
Catholic identity. SKC exists to provide a structured context where students, staff and families can experience what it means to say that each of us has a relationship with Christ. We are a community that accepts values, that recognises the importance of virtue, and attempts to model what a good and just, caring and faithful society would be like. Therefore, we always aspire to be faithful to the four Touchstones of Catholic schools in the Edmund Rice tradition: Liberating Education, Gospel Spirituality, Inclusive Community, Justice and Solidarity. As we continue to journey through this school year, we do so with hope, confidence and enthusiasm, knowing that we bring something unique to those in our College community that no-one else can. We share the story of Jesus. And like St Kevin of Glendalough and Blessed Edmund Rice of Waterford, who both brought the light of Christ into the world by their faith filled responses and actions, so, too, do all of us offer the same faithfilled answer, and do our part to share the light. From the Principal Reproduced here is the address given by Mrs Deborah Barker on the occasion of her Commissioning as Principal of St Kevin’s College on Friday 5 March 2021 to the St Kevin’s Community. On behalf of the College Leadership team, staff and students of St Kevin’s College, I wish to thank our special guests who have joined us today: in particular, Bishop Curtin (Class of 1963) and Fr Mark Reynolds (Class of 1971). Thank you both for being here. To our Chair of the Advisory Council, Mr Paul O’Malley and his wife Cath, Members of the Advisory Council, representatives from our Mother’s and Father’s Associations, St Kevin’s College Old Collegians and Foundation, and in particular to Br Bill Wilding, former Headmaster of the College from 1994 to 2003. Thank you for the warmth and hospitality already shown to me and to Br Bill, for your mentoring of what is the essence of St Kevin’s College. A very heartfelt welcome to Dr Craig Wattam, the newly appointed Executive Director of Edmund Rice Education Australia; Mr Adam Taylor, Ms Catherine Greenley and Mr Durm O’Riordan, also from EREA. I very much look forward to working within the Edmund Rice tradition. At the end of last year, after 10 years as Principal, I left Santa Maria College, with a full and grateful heart. It is this same heart that I bring with me to St Kevin’s today. Not in an effusive or superficial way, but grounded in the same love of which St Paul’s Letter to the Colossians speaks. At best, it is a love we all share,

that is, a love of compassion, kindness, humility and patience. It is a love that calls us to listen deeply, to be reflective and contemplative. It is a love that invites each of us to be a presence in community…to journey and to grow with each other, to be challenged, to be stretched and most importantly, to evolve for the common good. This love is from God, gifted to humanity and seen in the hearts and lives of people such as St Kevin, Blessed Edmund Rice, St Mary MacKillop of the Cross and the founding Brothers of this College. It is a love enshrined in the touchstones of EREA that has been birthed from the wellsprings of Scripture. If our deep intention is to live justly, to show the tenderness of mercy and to walk humbly as we have just heard from the Prophet Micah, then love becomes our legacy. The passion for St Kevin’s College is palpable. We have such a rich history, with so many wonderful achievements which span our 103-year history. The academic standard is exceptionally high because the College expects each boy to be his very best self. The teaching staff have always been incredibly talented and experts in their field and this remains today. The work ethic and dedication of all staff are worth noting, the strong partnerships with families are authentic and the energy of the place is close to electric.
College, the MITS Program, and pastoral programs highlight the importance of growing young boys into men of goodness and strong character. So, as we weave new threads into the defining and evolving tapestry and life that is St Kevin’s College, let us do so as a community. Who learn deeply, respectfully and with humility; Let us do so, as we reset, reclaim and reimagine; Let us do so as a community who is bruised, vulnerable, if not in pain, and yet desire healing Let us do so as we continue to offer high standards in all aspects of school life, yet never losing sight of the need to contribute to the betterment of society; Let us do so as a community who cares for the vulnerable and disheartened; Let us do so as we embrace life in abundance and bring the light of Hope to others. Mrs Deborah Barker, Principal Deborah enjoys study and has a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Theology and Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Melbourne, and has recently finished studies at Harvard University in Boston in 2017. Married to Greg and with two boys in their late teens, Deborah enjoys family life and learns much as a mother navigating the role of parent in these current times. Deborah is incredibly grateful for her appointment to St Kevin’s College and Deborah Barker comes to St Kevin’s College after taking on the role as Principal for 10 years at Santa Maria College, Northcote. Prior to this appointment, she was Deputy Principal at

with the staff, students and parents, hopes to re-set, re-claim and re-imagine the future of St Kevin’s College, founded as a community of Faith some 103 years ago with a strong belief to shape future generations for the betterment of society.

2020 VCE Results
Year 12 is the most challenging year of a young person’s educational journey for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the bearing it has on potential opportunities and pathways. The year of 2020 presented greater challenges and unpredictability to the St Kevin’s VCE cohort than ever before. Adjustments to the content and mode of delivery of the VCE in the year of COVID-19 meant the majority of the school year was spent studying online and examinations were delayed. Students spent a nervous Christmas period waiting for the release of results just prior to the New Year, results which were the culmination of extraordinary endeavor, application and focus. The traditional confidence which comes from a solid work ethic and academic preparation was tested for teachers and students alike, as no one could predict exactly how the hours of preparation, 6
teaching and studying online would translate into results. Fortunately, the resilience of the Year 12 cohort of 2020 was rewarded with academic achievement and personal achievement worthy of great celebration. The College pays tribute to this achievement at every level in full knowledge that Study Scores and ATARs, whilst significant, must be celebrated together with personal growth through extra-curricular activities and commitment to social justice. In 2020, our College Duces were:
JUSTIN MITCHELL - 99.90 Justin Mitchell was College Deputy Captain and Captain of Music in 2020. He was a member of the Symphony Orchestra, Senior Concert Band, Big Band One, Senior Choir, Senior Vocal Ensemble, Celtic Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. Justin’s musical involvement resulted in him being awarded Full Colours for Choir and Music this year.
Justin was also awarded Full Colours for his contribution to the Outdoor Education Program in 2019. He contributed to the St Vincent de Paul Society and represented the College in Debating, Tournament of the Minds, Hockey and Squash. Justin not only achieved a perfect score of 50 in both English and Physics, In Year 11, but in he was also awarded Dux of Chemistry and French, and was the recipient of the John Lethbridge Memorial Prize.
HUEY TRUONG - 99.90 Huey Truong participated in a variety of programs provided by the College. He was involved with his House Social Justice Partnership with the PACSEL Reading Program and represented the College in Soccer and Badminton. Huey achieved a perfect score of 50 in both English and Chemistry this year, as well as a perfect score of 50 for Accounting which he undertook as a Unit 3/4 Study when in Year 11.

SEBASTIAN EL-KHOURY 99.90 Sebastian El-Khoury was an Officer and a House Committee Member who contributed to College life in a variety of ways. He represented the College in Table Tennis, Tennis, Debating and Public Speaking. Sebastian also played the piano and was a finalist in the Tournament of Minds Competition. He was an active member of his House’s Social Justice Partnership, Kaboom Kids’ Club. In 2021, he achieved a perfect score of 50 in English as well as Honours in University Mathematics and he is one of the two Duces for Specialist Mathematics. In 2020, Sebastian was Dux of Year 11 Japanese. We also congratulate our Proxime Accesserunt: Matthew Kim - 99.80 Luca Massimino - 99.80 On Monday March 15 2021, it was wonderful to have the return to the College of our 2011 College Captain, Mr Adam Ong, as well as the College Dux of 2011, Mr James Toohey at The Formal Assembly; this assembly included the Officers Investiture for 2021 and the Awards Ceremony for the class of 2020. Mr Adam Ong was able to physically join us to reflect on his time at the College and to discuss life beyond the College gates as an old boy. Mr James Toohey joined the College community remotely to provide words of inspiration for academic success. Key messages from both Guests of Honor were greatly received, particularly by the current and past students.

Congratulations are extended to Jamie Miller (SKC '20) who won the Jury Prize for his Year 12 Media Movie, ‘Magnum Opus’ at the 2021 Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) Top Screen Awards Monash University (37%) and the University of Melbourne (21%) once again will be the destination for the majority of our Year 12 graduates. RMIT, Swinburne and Deakin are the next most popular destinations. A small number of students are congratulated on their offers from US Colleges and Cambridge in the UK. Strong results in the Science subjects translated into a greater proportion of students entering the field of Natural and Physical Science, Engineering & Related Technologies, Health, and Agriculture, Environment & Related Studies. Such courses were very often combined with the traditional destination of Commerce/ Business in a double degree option. The students of St Kevin’s overcame all odds in 2020 and should be justifiably proud of their achievements and optimistic about their future pathways, and the meaningful contributions they will make to our world. On this occasion, we took the time to recognize and celebrate those past students who performed so well in last year’s VCE. With 44% of students in 2020 reaching an ATAR of 90 or higher, and more specifically, 26% of students achieving a study score of 40 or higher in individual subjects, there was a lot to celebrate.

St Peter's ELC at SKC We didn’t realise we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun. A.A. Milne We often say at St Peter’s ELC, “the children enjoy adventures, finding new understandings and connections in their learning, through imaginative and creative play each day”. Commencing a partnership with Loreto Toorak, St Kevin’s College and the Parish of St Peter’s in 2002, St Peter’s ELC began as an early learning setting in Toorak. After many blissful years of play

and learning, works began adjacent to the ELC. Considering the noise and disruption to ‘everyday life’, the decision was made to move away temporarily for safety and continuity in learning for the children. Initially, we thought it was to be a short break. After four and half years – we’re back! St Peter’s Early Learning Centre has returned home to Toorak road under the sole auspices of St Kevin’s College. We are thrilled to provide a quality environment, purpose- built for the

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING At Glendalough, each class receives a weekly SEL class taught by SEL specialists alongside classroom teachers. This is a unique approach supported by research that enables the development of wellbeing literacy across a whole school community. Early in Term 1, our SEL and PE teacher, Mr O’Dwyer developed special connection and leadership days at our amazing Tooronga Sports Grounds. Students connected with each other and their Year 11 OAP Leaders using collaborative problem solving and critical thinking skills. We also took the opportunity to acknowledge important days for social and emotional development including: •
Safer Internet Day: to support our digital wellbeing and online safety.

International women’s day: to acknowledge our female role models and develop a sense of empathy towards specific issues faced by girls and women. Bullying no Way Day: to develop and understanding of the skills required in identifying and reporting bullying behaviour.
During the year, we will continue to teach key competencies founded upon the Victorian Curriculum Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR). The key competencies are shared through evidence-based learning materials that support students’ attitudes and skills necessary to: process and manage their emotions; set and succeed positive goals; feel and express empathy for others; establish and preserve positive relationships; make responsible decisions; develop resilience to manage a changing world; create and understand positive
gender norms; and contribute to social cohesion. To enhance the wellbeing support for our students we offer school clubs and activities that focus on inclusivity and building relationships and confidence. The dedicated Glendalough staff give their time to support extra opportunities for students to develop their resilience, collaborative skills and problem solving. In addition, we also offer our students one-on-one and small group support through our on-site Psychologist Katrina Tsoutsoulis. COLLEGE CAPTAIN
Nicholas has been a part of the St Kevin’s College community since prep. He is now continuing a third generation of his family at St Kevin’s, with 2 younger cousins currently at Glendalough. A proud member of Kenny house, Nick is actively involved in rowing, St Vincent De Paul, the Prefects and Officers’ debating team, and is looking forward to the football season after a disrupted 2020. This year, Nick hopes to reclaim what has been lost in the St Kevin’s College community over the last year in order to leave a legacy that can be carried on to future generations of Kevinians.
LUCA DI CONZA
DEPUTY COLLEGE CAPTAIN Luca is in Cusack house and arrived at St Kevin's in Year 7 2016, coming from St Paul's Primary School in Bentleigh. He is particularly passionate in his APS sports, athletics and cross country, and has represented the College at State and

National levels. Some of Luca's most memorable experiences at the College have been made through the Outdoor Education Program, specifically his Year 9 RICE Camp to the West Macdonnell Ranges. He is looking forward to working alongside the school leaders to create a vibrant and welcoming school community.
LUCAS HARRISON
DEPUTY COLLEGE CAPTAIN Lucas arrived at St Kevin’s in Year 7 from St Cecilia’s Primary School and has enjoyed being a part of the St Kevin’s community for over five years. Being the first and only in his family of four to attend St Kevin’s, he soon settled in amongst his peers. A member of Rahill House and a dedicated sportsman, Lucas is the captain of the 1st XI Cricket Team, a keen footballer and has enjoyed three-time premiership success on the Athletics track. This year, Lucas is eager to reinvigorate school life with the sense of community that was sorely missed in a disrupted 2020.
DOMINIC MORELLI
DEPUTY COLLEGE CAPTAIN Dominic Morelli arrived at St Kevin's College in Year 5. Dominic is the first of two Morelli's who attend St Kevin's. Dominic has performed in plays and musicals, namely 2019's senior musical, for which he was the lead. He leads the College musically and is the appointed Deputy Music Captain. He participates in many school bands and choirs, including the St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir. He has achieved academic recognition in Chinese (Dux 2019, 2020), Mathematics (Dux 2019), and Year 12 Biology (Dux 2020). In 2019, he was awarded the Headmaster’s Award. This year, he aims to work with other leaders to organise cultural and social justice activities to allow the school community to reconnect with its Kevinian identity.

The SKC Foundation The St Kevin’s College Foundation manages funds received through donations and bequests. These funds support the awarding of bursaries to young men to attend or remain at the College. Recently, the Foundation has reached an important milestone. Now we have the capability to distribute funds from earnings to support bursaries for several young men on an annual basis. These young men will receive financial support to allow them a place at the College and, importantly, a place in our community. This milestone has been achieved through the generous support of our members and

donors. I wanted to share the story of one such significant donor. Leon Landucci was a migrant to Australia and was orphaned at a young age. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a successful hairdresser into his 80s. He was renowned for his humour and gregariousness. Leon had a strong passion for music and education. Through his connections to St Kevin’s College, he saw an opportunity to ensure his legacy lived on by providing support for someone who might not be able to access that education. Leon’s generosity will be felt for decades. The Foundation has the infrastructure to
invest funds for the long term. It is a key role of the Foundation to be the vehicle through which donations to the College can be managed. What the Foundation relies upon is the generosity of the St Kevin’s community: people like Leon who wish to make a difference to the lives of future generations. In The Wild: The Lambers Brothers stir-crazy. The activity was to walk the three kilometres around the island. Like scenes from ‘Castaway’ they had a little volleyball called Wilson and left him at Roydon's hut.
The Lambers brothers, Anton (SKC 2007), Eric (SKC 2009) and Leo (SKC 2013) live out our saying ‘Learning, Family and Fullness of Life’. When COVID squashed plans for overseas adventure, Leo, Eric and Anton, realised an equally thrilling journey was literally here at home. Using determination and strength, the three brothers crossed perhaps one of Australia's most treacherous ocean stretches, Bass Strait. All three were once part of the extensive OAP Leaders Program and were well trained to examine a challenge, assess the resources, plan an outcome and execute it well. As they had never ocean kayaked before, the trio had a training routine before setting off from Victoria’s Tidal River on Wilson’s Promontory and paddlng the 340 kilometres to Tasmania. Navigating the open waters over the 19day journey, they hopped 11 islands, many of them remote and uninhabited. Weeks of planning were involved ,considering every contingency and weather type, pushing themselves and their vessels to the limit. Armed with an Epirb and a beacon each, dehydrated food and camping gear, the brothers set off 14
The brothers had a combined skillset for success. Along with Leo's medical background, Anton is an orthopaedic specialist who also had invaluable medical knowledge, while Eric, a civil engineer brought a logistical, problem-solving mindset to the group. They encountered many challenges, including seasickness, cramps, aching muscles and hands, but the biggest battle was one of wills: a situation that the Kevinians themselves say St Kevin’s equipped them well for. Worries gave way to awe when they were treated to nature's spectacle. The places they saw, such as arriving at sunset at a beautiful deserted white beach, changed their mindset instantly. The remoteness was beautiful in its own right. While on the trip, the tents were under a vast night sky peppered with stars. On Roydon Island, off the north-west coast of Flinders Island, they located a hut which was serendipitous, as they stayed seven days on the tiny island. Being marooned on the 37-hectare island for a week did send them a bit
Excited to see the end on the final day, they could see land but knew five hours paddling was ahead in a treacherous crossing called the Banks Strait. Instead, they happened upon a beautiful spectacle as nature's grand finale. Four kilometres offshore, a pod of 30 dolphins came by. It was genuinely beautiful; they were jumping out of the water next to the kayak. Seeing those dolphins right at the end made the whole trip quite magical, they recall. 19 days after leaving Tidal River, the Lambers brothers reached Little Musselroe Bay on the northern tip of Tasmania, aching and exhausted, but triumphant and relieved — as, no doubt, were their parents. Their respect for the College and its many opportunities is obvious when you hear them. All three suggest that no matter what your interest, SKC has something for you to excel in and be the best you can. Anton was Dux (shared) a Prefect and an OAP Leader. Eric was Proxime Accessit, a Prefect and an OAP Leader. While not to be outdone youngest Leo received an Academic Excellence Award, House Captaincy, was made an OAP Leader with Full Colours and received Full Colours for Squash. They all have been involved in running Old Collegians events and visiting the College. Leo even co-founded the Old Collegians Hockey Club – Kevinians through and through.

Productions It has been a delight to see our students back on stage this year. We have staged two productions this term and both have been a triumph. The Year 10 Play with Sacré Coeur, Elizabeth and Darcy, was performed outside in Edmund’s Courtyard. All who attended were taken by the setting; the courtyard is a perfect amphitheatre. The use of lights in the beautiful trees and

the blessings of good weather enhanced the romance of the retelling of Pride and Prejudice. The delightful use of choreography combined with the focused performances and tight direction from Mr. Ian Nott created a light, whimsical show enjoyed by all. The Year 11/12 Play also with Sacré Coeur, Stories in the Dark, saw
performance return to the Ruby Tout Theatre. The intense production allowed our senior students to showcase their skills and was a modern spin on traditional storytelling tropes. Ms Kacey Pelle worked with the strong lead actors and large chorus to create storytelling vignettes in an incredibly creative manner. Mrs Edwina Tribe Head of Drama and Productions

Old Collegians A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AUSTRALIA 1981 AND ST KEVIN’S Forty years ago, on 6 March 1981, one hundred of the world's greatest photojournalists were given the unique and challenging assignment of capturing an entire nation on film in the course of one day. The event produced a hardback book with 367 images.
LATEST SIGHTINGS David Corcoran (SKC '96) David is now based in Vienna, Austria. After studying Psychology, he moved into the world of Opera and sang with Opera Australia for 8 years at the Sydney Opera House. He and his wife, also a singer, moved to Europe where he got a job with the Vienna State Opera. Since 2017, David has developed a business around enhancing personal development for business people through communication

On page 147, famous USA photographer Stephanie Maze captured St Kevin’s Old Collegian Eric Lavoipierre (SKC Class of 82) at the annual St Kevin’s College and Loreto Mandeville Hall Dancing Class. Dancing Classes have been held between these two schools annually since the 1960s Eric Lavoipierre came to St Kevin’s in 1981 from France. He completed a Bachelor of Engineering at Melbourne University and went back to Paris in 1987 to work for Nestlé France. While working as an engineer, he studied classical song at the Paris Conservatory and went on to complete a 3-year postgraduate course at the Notre Dame Cathedral in 1996. He is now living in Sweden, working as a singer at the Opera in Malmö. He has a 19 year old son and is happy to catch up with Old Boys travelling through Sweden. 18
James and his wife Amelia and baby Sienna live in Dallas, Texas, and work for a large Healthcare Firm, United Health Group, within the Optum Health Services division for Texas, Louisiana and Tennessee. He started an Aussie Rules team here, the North Texas Devils, bringing the game to that part of the USA.
ARCHIVE DONATIONS One of the great things about generous people donating archive items is that we
These cuff links were recently donated by the family of John Cantlon (SKC1943). John was one of those famous, to us, but unheralded federal public servants who lived up to the very purpose for which St Kevin’s was created. As John got to Intermediate (Year 10) at his original school it became apparent he was academically capable. Most Catholic schools had no Year 11 or 12 and he moved to St Kevin’s to complete his education and gain a profession, and make a meaningful contribution to society. Catholics had very few chances to do this. John, along with many Kevinians gained a much sought-after position in the public service and when his federal department moved to Canberra, he moved too. He and many Kevinians rose through the ranks in Canberra and were instrumental in forming and implementing important federal policy. John’s son Mike was at Glendalough for just 15 months during 1962 before the move to Canberra but fondly related stories of his fleeting connection. He thought of us as a destination for his father’s cufflinks and we thank him.

As rowing season raised the awareness of many, Peter Girvan (SKC '81) has generously donated many items of St Kevin’s memorabilia. Not least of all is his 1980 4th VIII oar. It is the oar he won the Div 4 at the Head of the River with and purchased at a fundraiser. KILLARA FOUNDATION A new enterprise has brought together several members of the SKC community with the goal of improving outcomes for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Killara Foundation was founded by John Paul Whitbread (‘90) along with Olympian Kyle Vander Kuyp and former SKC teacher Kane Bowden. Killara has since been joined by Dan Kennedy (‘90), Andrew Brown (‘90), Tim McCarthy (‘90), Cam Hawker (‘97) as well as former AFL players Ryan O’Keefe (‘98) and Mitch Brown (SKOBFC 2017-2019). Killara aims to support participants in dreaming big by giving them the opportunity to live in secure housing, as well as providing assistance in finding full time work. Killara has recently launched a program in Melbourne. Members of the SKC community who may be able to offer employment opportunities are encouraged to visit www.killarafoundation.org to learn more.

firsts basketball coach Warwick, he was then signed to the NBL next star academy. Josh playing with the Adelaide 36’s as a rookie point guard is attracting big interest from NBA clubs, after starring in opening NBL games. He has played only a few NBL games, but the draft-bound sensation already has multiple NBA clubs expressing interest in his sublime skills. We wish him well for the season.
RAY DELANEY The College was saddened by the passing on 4 January of long time staff member Mr Ray Delaney. Ray was 86 years of age and a staff member for a total of 31 years from 1967 to 2005. Ray was mainly a chemistry and science teacher but was TIC of Rugby and Soccer and participated in many facets of school life. Most notably Ray is regarded as the father of St Kevins Counselling and Psychology services. He pioneered the implementation of personal development programs in this area well before it was commonplace in schools. The meeting room in the college counsellor services area is named in his honour: DELANEY ROOM. The Old Collegians Association awarded Ray Honorary Life Membership in 2006 for his services to St Kevin’s College students for 31 years. VALE Ray Delaney.

Interschool Sport Including premierships won by Touch Football, Swimming, Cycling and Diving, across a range of sports The 2021 Summer Sports Season was successful. Ably ley by their Captain, James Lloyd, The Swim Team performed magnificently at the APS Swimming Relays easily winning the APS Premiership from Scotch College and Caulfield Grammar. A notable performance was the APS record in the U17 200m Breaststroke (2:07.43). The team was Samuel Mathieson, Daniel Rush, Gabriel Cornwell and Daniel Kelly. The Diving team retained their diving premiership for another year with an outstanding display from Jonah Mercieca smashing the APS Record. The strength of the squad was evident with St Kevin’s College winning the overall competition by 20 points. The Firsts Touch Football final round was against Brighton Grammar. They won 9-5. They played on to beat Melbourne
Grammar in The Grand-final to complete a wonderful season; St Kevin’s remained undefeated. The camaraderie and the strength of the entire squad, from Year 7 to Year 12, was particularly noteworthy and will continue to build in the future. Cycling had a tight tussle with Caulfield Grammar. Strength and depth in the team, however, saw the team win the VISC Cycling championship for the fifth consecutive year. The team won both The Boys Section and The Overall Combined Section, yet again. The 2021 Head of the River Regatta saw a heart breaking second place for the First VIII by 0.42 seconds to Brighton with Scotch in third place. The College again qualified all boats into the A-Final. The Second VIII placed fifth, Third VIII placed second, Fourth VIII placed second, 10A VIII placed sixth, 10B VIII placed third, and the 10C VIII placed fifth. Our 9A Quad had a commanding win in their
division. Following the Head of the River Regatta, the First VIII then ventured to Lake Barrington in Tasmania and performed strongly in the A-Final. The APS Cricket season was an interesting competition under a new format for First XI teams which say 20/20, 50 over and two-day games make up the premierships. Lucas Harrison captained the team to win the first outright against Brighton Grammar which has not happened for a long time. Some scintillating batting by Jack Ball (145) and a 10 wicket bowling performance by Benjamin McMahen were distinguished performances on the day. Another notable performance was the 301 run chase against Xavier for first innings win and Tom Martin’s century against Geelong College in the last game.
