As MedTech World heads towards its inaugural event in Hong Kong, our third edition this year explores a city that continues to deliver on opportunity. Strategically positioned as a super-connector between mainland China and the global market and home to a growing ecosystem of skilled talent and innovation, Hong Kong has no doubt a pivotal role to play in the future of medical technology.
The use of increasingly smart technology to improve healthcare is a recurring theme throughout this issue. For years, emerging technologies such as AI hovered in a state of anticipation - surrounded by bold predictions and buzzwords. Now, they are beginning to emerge from their chrysalis, shedding layers of hype that reveal practical applications that prove reality can be just as compelling. On page 10, we look at the future of robotics in care. Earlier this year, UBTECH revealed its long-term vision for humanrobot symbiosis at a showcase launch event in Shenzhen. We explore the potential of the UWORLD U1, the world’s first full-size, mass-produced ultra-bionic humanoid robot, to support home care as an emotionally responsive companion, promoting both physical and mental well-being. Elsewhere, SmartCare CEO Justin Cheng reflects on the company’s journey from a research initiative at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to an AI-driven platform helping to transform patient-centred care. By reducing clinicians’ administrative burden and improving the patient experience, SmartCare offers a practical glimpse at how AI is making a difference. Read the interview beginning on page 18. With all that said, on to a round of thank yous. Firstly, to Dr. Dylan Attard - whose own journey with MedTech World is a reminder that meaningful communities are built over time. What started as a single gathering in Malta five years ago has grown into a global platform that has quietly built a strong foundation of trust, collaboration and engagement across the MedTech community. Behind that growth is a clear sense of purpose - one we hope is reflected throughout this edition’s pages.
