"The Alien" is a science-fiction film that awesomely advances the already rich grammar of the genre, with technical feats that are still closely-guarded secrets but which are pre dicted to outdo the spectacular achievements of "2001", "Star Wars" and "Close En counters Of The Third Kind". This is a film about a group of space-travellers encountering a strange and malevolent life-form on a distant planet — an enemy that is too horrifying to measure or defeat. It happens to be set in space but the essential conflict could happen in any location where a group of people face the unknown and the uncon trollable. The sort of conflict where your adversary appears before you, vanishes when struck, and then bursts with terrifying suddenness from out of your own c h e s t........
