Greenwich Cited as Safest City In America In a Top Honors article published in 2018, Greenwich is cited as a safe and livable community, according to a company that provides information on security. “ SafeHome.org, which bills itself as a leading authority on home security and home-automation testing, rated Greenwich as No. 1 in its annual review of “safest cities,” defined as communities over 50,000 in population.

It used recent statistics from the Federal Bureau of Statistics, demographic information, and other metrics, to determine a list of the 101 safest cities in the country. / In 2017, Greenwich turned up in the No. 1 spot on a list of the safest communities to raise a child, as ranked by a security-consulting organization. Study Again Ranks Greenwich America's Safest Community “ Greenwich has again been named America’s Safest City, according to the latest report by the home security company SafeHome.org. Only communities with populations above 50,000 were considered for the report.

/ "As the statistics indicate, there has been a precipitous drop in the number of crimes reported. Life safety has been one of the cornerstones of my administration for the past 11 years and this designation by SafeHome.org just shows that Greenwich is a premier place to live, work and raise a family."

/ According to SafeHome, the number of violent crimes in Greenwich has dropped 39.1 percent in recent years, based on statistics provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Additionally, the number of property crimes in Greenwich has dropped 14.4 percent. / "We look at several different factors when assigning a Safety Score to a city," "First and foremost is the FBI's latest report of how many and what types of crimes occurred in each city over a single year. The town of Greenwich was settled in 1640. One of the founders was Elizabeth Fones Winthrop who is the daughter-inlaw of John Winthrop, founder & governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
