New thrift store now open in Albany

A steady stream of thrifty shoppers made their way to Albany on Saturday, Nov. 19, to get a glimpse of a new shop on the Great River Road. Katie’s Konsignment & More opened for business at 407 S. Main St. with cookies, candy samples and retail and resale items that are easy on the budget.
The building along Route 84, adjacent to the village park, has sat empty since earlier this year when Subs 2 Go was sold and relocated to Thomson. Now it’s taking shape as a business with ample floor and wall space for a variety of goods that are sure to keep thrift shoppers coming back.
Katie and Shane Gallagher are the entrepreneurial couple behind the business. She grew up in Albany, with her childhood home visible from the shop. Now they live on the outskirts of town with two young children and a bevy of cats, dogs, chickens and ducks. Shane works as an engineer and Katie works at home and coaches gymnastics once a week. She expects to be working at the shop for the most part, though she has family and friends to call on to help.
Even with their busy schedules, the couple decided to pursue the opportunity since her dad, Jerry Anglese, owns the building. Not having to invest in the cost of entrance made it an easy decision to set up shop and invest in the community by offering a different kind of brick-andmortar store.
“You never know what you’ll find because the inventory will always be changing,” Katie said. Used clothing for infants, children and adults range from $1 to $3, and there’s plenty of items for sprucing up the home or adding a new look, from new and used to handmade or vintage.
The shop also provides an outlet for local crafters to sell their handmade creations. Katie’s specialty includes Cricut designs on stickers, ornaments or custom pieces, plus farmhouse items such as reusable egg cartons with amusing catchphrases. Other vendors include Knotty Cat Macrame of Albany, Lovely Little Kits sensory kits by her cousin in Fulton, Trobey’s Forge of Dixon that specializes in metal signs, Daughenbaugh’s Freeze Dried Delights of Albany, and Rusty Silo crafts from the recently closed Albany business – and there’s still room for more. Potential vendors and consignors can stop in the store to learn more or sign an agreement.
Katie also takes donations of clothing, shoes, jewelry, winter wear, books, games, records, movies, housewares, collectibles, antiques, knickknacks, home and office furniture, linens, curtains, blankets and appliances, with 40% of monthly proceeds to be given to an Albany charity. All proceeds from November and December will be donated to the Albany Food Pantry. Albany UMC Pastor Toni Lucas stopped in on Saturday to welcome the shop to the neighborhood and thank the couple for their support. “We’re happy to have you here,” she said while browsing.
Hours for Katie’s Konsignment are noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. American Red Cross urges donors to give blood during the holidays
As many gather for Thanksgiving celebrations with family and friends, the American Red Cross urges donors to shake up their holiday traditions and plan a time to give blood or platelets in the coming weeks.
Blood and platelet donations tend to drop more than 20% during holiday weeks. Seasonal illness and the threat of winter weather can add more concern during a time of year that is traditionally hard on the nation’s blood supply.

NANCY DIETZ
NANCY DIETZ, 70, of Prophetstown, IL, died Friday, November 18, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center in Silvis, IL. Her memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown with Rev. Isaac Newman, pastor of Yorktown Church of Christ officiating. A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:30 PM on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials have been established to Yorktown Church of Christ and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Nancy was born January 30, 1952, in Moline, IL, to Cecil and M. Louise (Ruhnow) Simpson. She was educated in the Center Hill Grade School in rural Carroll County and was a graduate of Mt. Carroll High School. She then graduated from Rockford College in Rockford, IL. She met Bob Dietz in 1968 and they were married on March 28, 1971, in Mt. Carroll, IL. Nancy was employed at Elkay in Lanark, IL. She then drove a bus for the Prophetstown School District for 12 years and was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Yorktown Church of Christ where she held many different offices and took care of her church’s ground. Nancy was an avid woodworker and gardener. She also liked to sew, bake and can her own vegetables. Nancy enjoyed providing for her family. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Bob; two daughters, Becky (Mike) Hodgett of Tampico, IL and Mandy (John) Atkinson of Prophetstown, IL; two sons, Buddy (Tina) Dietz of Prophetstown, IL and Gabe (Jamie) Dietz of Tampico, IL; six grandchildren, Michaela (Matthew) Gehn, Shelby Hodgett, Sammy Hodgett, Will Atkinson, Jake Atkinson and Ben Atkinson; two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Carter Gehn; three sisters, Sandra (Sam) Haas of Elizabeth, IL, Linda (Larry) Edwards of Pearl City, IL and Judy (Albert) Roybal of Salt Lake City, UT; three brothers, Don (Mary Beth) Simpson of Geneseo, IL, Larry (Delores) Simpson of Manito, IL and Dale (Barb) Simpson of Freeport, IL; many nieces and nephews.

Beverly J. “Bev” Frohling, 87, of Erie, IL, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Morningside of Sterling in Sterling, IL. Visitation was held from 4 – 7 pm on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Erie Christian Church. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 am on Saturday at the Church. Burial took place in the Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Erie Christian Church. Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Erie, is in charge of arrangements.
Beverly was born September 29, 1935 in Erie, IL, the daughter of Wayne and Ella (Sorbeck) Thomas. She married Roland “Tebe” Frohling on October 18, 1953 in Erie. Bev was very active in the Erie Christian Church, serving as a Deaconess, singing in the choir, and helping with many youth programs. She was also the church custodian for 18 years. Her number one job, however, was raising her children.
Bev loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in sports. She was talented in many crafts and especially enjoyed ceramics and crochet. During the warm months, Bev loved to be outside working in her yard and flower gardens.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gregg and Mary Frohling, Erie; daughter, Kayla Frohling, Erie; grandchildren, Ryan Mose (Jenny Stern), Miranda Frohling, Taylor (Joe) Howard, Jesse (Paige) Frohling, all of Erie; great grandchildren Kinlee Frohling, Walker Howard and a great grandson on the way; and siblings, James Thomas and Eula Seger. Bev was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roland; son, Ricky Frohling at birth; daughter, Tamra Mose; siblings, Ola Mae Bleitz, Dorthea Daw, William Thomas, Ruth Abshire, Robert Thomas and Paul Thomas. Born: December 5, 1970 in Fort Meade, Maryland Died: November 19, 2022 in Port Byron, IL
FULTON – Audie A. Roselieb, age 65, died Thursday, November 17, 2022 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. Audie was born on July 12, 1957 in Morrison the son of Ronald and Shirley (Oleson) Roselieb. He married Debra Sue Thompson on March 28, 1980 in Hooppole. Audie was employed as a Foreman with Frary Lumber and Supply in Prophetstown. He was a member of Crossroads Community Church in Morrison. Audie liked to fish and loved spending time at the family cabin in Prophetstown.
Survivors include his parents, Ron and Shirley Roselieb of Hooppole; his wife, Debra Sue Roselieb of Fulton; two sons, Mike (Sara) Thompson of Amboy and Jason Roselieb of Fulton; two sisters, Lisa (Ted) Brants of Hooppole and Rhonda (Robert) Bohms of Morrison; one brother, Rusty (Deb) Roselieb of Prophetstown; five grandchildren, Austin, Cody, Aaliyah, Hope and Shawn.
Visitation will be Friday, November 25, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Prophetstown and also from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jon Eastlick of Crossroads Community Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to his church.

James T. “Jim” Cox, 51, of Port Byron, IL, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 19, 2022. Visitation will be from 3-7 pm on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, 9412-228th St. N., Port Byron. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 28th at the Church. Cremation will take place following services. Upon graduation, Jim joined the US Navy where he spent his 12 year enlistment on submarines working in nuclear propulsion. Following his honorable discharge in 2000 he was hired at Exelon Nuclear Generating Station in Cordova, IL, as a training instructor. Over the course of his career with Exelon he held several leadership positions within the plant.
Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Byron. He enjoyed sports, especially hunting with his Dad and golfing. He was an avid Washington Commanders fan. Jim was a loving father and husband and took great pride in his children and their achievements.
He is survived by his parents, Tommy and Sandy Cox, Caribou, ME; wife, Tora Cox and children, Billy and Katie Cox, Port Byron; daughter, Jessica Cox, Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Mack Hebert, Portland, ME; sister-in-law, Donna Cox, Oakland, ME; and nieces and nephews, Amber, Matthew, Tom, Ben and Sarah.
