Obituaries James Jaggers

Phyllis Ross

SHEFFIELD — James Leroy Jaggers of Sheffield passed away at 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at his home in rural Manlius. Born Oct. 20, 1936, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Roy and Nellie (Ellis) Jaggers, he married Connie L. Thomas March 3, 1962, in New Bedford. She survives. He served as a private first class in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving two years active duty at Test Unit #1 Camp Pendleton, Calif. He also served six years in the Marine Corps James Reserve. Jaggers Also surviving are one son, Rod (Marcie) Jaggers of Princeton; two daughters, Mae Jaggers of Princeton and Angel Jaggers of Milford, Conn.; two grandchildren, Jared Jaggers and Tara Jaggers of Chicago; one brother, Joe Jaggers of Wyanet; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be no funeral services. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be at a later date. Visitation was held Friday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. Memorials may be directed to the Manlius Fire Department and Manlius Rescue Squad.

PRINCETON — Phyllis Ross, 97, of Princeton died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Liberty Village in Princeton. Arrangements are pending at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.

Roger Beaber SHEFFIELD — Roger Leonard Beaber, 86, of Sheffield passed away at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, in Princeton. Born April 26, 1927, in Princeton to Earl and Ruth (Freeberg) Beaber Sr., he married Gail A. Stonewall March 10, 1962, in Nogalaes, Mexico. She survives. He retired from Advanced Asphalt in Princeton on April 26, 1987. He served in the U.S. Army as a private first class during World War II and was the recipient of the Roger Victory Medal. Beaber Also surviving are two daughters, Robin (Steve) Stage of Sheffield and Denise Beaber of Peoria; one son, Wade Beaber of Naples, Fla.; one stepson, Shawn (Hilda) Beaber of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren, Steven, Lynette, Kristina, Christain, Lauran and Lindsey; and three great-grandchildren, Mckenzie, Ethan and Abel. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl Beaber Jr. and Ronnie Beaber; and one sister, Ruth Pagani. Private graveside services will be held with the Rev. Jane Courtright officiating. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery with military rites conducted by Mineral American Legion Post 1031. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. The Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, is in charge of arrangements.

Jolyn Moreno BUREAU — Jolyn A. (Struglinski) Moreno, 51, of Bureau died at 7:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Jolyn was born on Feb. 27, 1962, in Spring Valley to William and Jane (Bezely) Struglinski. She married Jerry Moreno on Nov. 21, 1987. She had worked as a dental assistant for many years for Dr. Eckberg Jolyn in Wyanet. Jolyn was a loving mother and Moreno wife. Jolyn is survived by her husband, Jerry Moreno of Bureau; her daughter, Morganne Moreno, at home; her parents, William and Jane Struglinski, of DePue; two sisters, Jill (Brian) Wachs of DePue and Paula (Jack) Kausal of Glenview; a brother, Rick Struglinski of Spring Valley; nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Steve and Lora Wetzel, of Bureau. She was preceded in death by a nephew. There will be no services. Burial will be at Valley Memorial Park at a later date. Carolyn Brandner ARLINGTON — Carolyn M. Brandner, 59, of 32695 1700 North Ave Arlington, died peacefully at 3:41 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at home surrounded by family after an extended illness. Carolyn was born in Spring Valley on Feb. 26, 1954, to Marvin and Bernice (Gillan) Schneider. She married Glen “Burr” Carolyn Brandner at Holy Trinity Church in Cherry Brandner on June 29, 1974. Carolyn worked at Busters Restaurant in Peru followed by 17 years at Red Lobster in Peru. She loved her grandchildren, and enjoyed baking, cooking and shopping. She was past president of Ladd PTO and very active in the Ladd Moose. Carolyn was known for her meals and desserts during the farm season and special events to many. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Carolyn was very active with Bureau County Relay For Life with her team, Brandner Broads. She is survived by her husband, Glen; her mother, Bernice of Cherry; two sons, Joseph (Jenifer) Brandner and Chris (Jennifer) Brandner, both of rural Spring Valley; one daughter by choice, Deanna Fultz of Princeton; six grandchildren; and five sisters, Sharon Schneider of Princeton, Diane (Jim) Stangel of Cherry, Marlene (Bill) LaSorella of Ladd, Rhonda Fultz of Mendota and Janet (Chris) Drewel of rural Utica. She was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Connie Lauer. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Trinity Church in Cherry with the Rev. Patrick Fixsen officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. Pallbearers will be Sue Wagner, Debbie Taylor, A.J. Detmers, Craig Wright, Guthrie Helm and Will Linker. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle and at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the church until time of services. Memorials may be made to Bureau County Relay For Life.

Thomas Gustafson PRINCETON — Thomas J. Gustafson, 65, of Princeton passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. He was born on Sept. 25, 1948, in Princeton to Willie and Mona (Gilbert) Gustafson. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1966. He graduated from Barber College in Moline. Tom served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he was a barber in Princeton for many years. Tom was previously married to Thomas Candace Jacobson. Gustafson He was on the Bureau County Agricultural Board, holding several positions over the years and he was very active in the Bureau County Fair. Tom also announced the races at Bureau County Speedway for several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Princeton. Tom is survived by two sons, Tipton (Victoria) Gustafson of Fair Lawn, N.J., and Justin Gustafson of Peru; two grandchildren, Margo and Kai of Fair Lawn, N.J.; two sisters, Meri (Gary) Giese of Princeton and Ann (Greg) Crofton of Neponset; a nephew, Joshua Crofton and three nieces, Jessica, Victoria, and Emma Crofton. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Memorial service will be at noon Monday at the Norberg Memorial Home. will officiate. Burial will be private and at a later date. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the Norberg Memorial Home. Memorials may be directed to Bureau County Fair or Friends of Strays. A vehicle driven by a 16-year-old Princeton girl slid into a parked vehicle in the intersection of Central Avenue and Sixth Street at 6:18 a.m. Dec. 23. A two-vehicle collision involving Gregory A. Jarrett, 29, of Crest Hill and Kevin A. Morris, 27, of St. Louis, Mo., occurred in the intersection of Main and Orchard streets at 11:50 a.m. Dec. 23.

A two-vehicle collision involving Juan AranaSalinas, 35, of DePue and Antonio Madrigal, 42, of DePue occurred on Route 29 near Verde Ranch Road at 4:32 p.m. Dec. 21. Arana-Salinas was charged with no valid driver’s license and driving too fast for conditions.
