STATE OF THE VILLAGE Thursday, January 20

The BACC is proud to present the Annual State of the Village Address and Luncheon with guest speaker Village of Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta. The address includes a recap of the previous year and a preview of the year ahead for Bolingbrook residents and businesses. Held in the Reagan Ballroom of the Bolingbrook Golf Club’s, attendees include local legislators, mayors and the CEOs of Bolingbrook businesses and those who conduct business in Bolingbrook.

BEST OF BOLINGBROOK BUSINESS AWARDS AND GALA Thursday, March 10

Every year the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce celebrates businesses and nonprofits in the Chamber with a themed gala. This is an opportunity for members, their family, their staff and their supporters to get dressed up and celebrate each other. The event culminates in the announcing of the Best of Bolingbrook Business winners. The Chamber also honors a business leader of the year as well as the Milestone Recipients; those celebrating 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 years with the Chamber.

The process begins in January with at-large nominations. Any Bolingbrook Chamber member can be anonymously nominated for an award. Questionnaires are sent to the nominees. Using a scoring rubric the responses are anonymously judged by members of the community chosen by Chamber staff. Category winners and an Overall Winner is selected. Winners are announced during the Gala. The evening includes live entertainment, a sitdown dinner and cash bar. Dressing in theme attire is encouraged. The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce’s most public facing event is the Taste of Bolingbrook held at The Promenade Bolingbrook. The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce’s final Signature Event of the year is the Holiday Party featuring the Charity Challenge. Guest bartenders from several area bars are converging on one establishment to serve signature cocktails in a unique competition that benefits BACC nonprofits. They are vying for tips, bragging rights and additional prize money for their chosen charity. The winning bartender wins the next year’s holiday party for their establishment. The BACC tops off the tip jars with additional funds: $500 for first place, $300 for second and $100 each for the remaining nonprofits. This event exemplifies our motto: “Where Business, Community and Government meet.” All three components are what makes this event a success year after year.

NETWORKING BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT GROUPS

In response to the growing diversity among our Chamber members, and in an attempt to meet the needs of the various demographics within the Chamber, several special interest groups were formed. With the exception of BANG, membership in these groups is included with the basic membership investment. Each groups holds its meetings and keeps their own mailing list.

THE SMALL BUSINESS COALITION (SBC)

is a collaborative group whose goal is to share best practices, gain knowledge from each other’s experiences, help each other solve issues, and explore business development opportunities. Each month the meeting discussion revolves around a specific topic, and topics are determined in advance by the group. The SBC meets on the third Friday of every month (except December) at 7:30 a.m. at the Chamber office or virtual.

THE WOMEN IN BUSINESS (WIB) organization is designed to foster professional development, personal growth, community involvement, and strategic relationships for female leaders in our community. We meet every other month; the locations and programs may vary.

The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce and the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce continue to partnering to offer monthly events either in person or virtual. From a panel discussion featuring Ulta senior management to a health topic addressed by AMITA doctors to golf lessons at Mistwood Golf Dome, WIB offers women a variety of developmental programs and networking events.

THE NONPROFIT COALITION was established

to bring together nonprofit organizations serving a variety of needs and causes in the community; the Board members who serve these organizations; and charitably-inclined business leaders who support them. Initially designed to host quarterly meetings that will revolve around professional development. The format will be a blend of the knowledge needed to enhance the skills and abilities of those who work in the nonprofit sector; the information needed to be a good volunteer or Board member; and the power of networking by which people with a common interest or goal can build relationships and learn from the wisdom and experience of others. Strengthening the local nonprofit sector in ways that enhance inefficiencies and effectiveness has benefit for the quality of life in the entire community. Staff, Board members, volunteers, donors and other interested community members will find opportunities through selected meeting topics to gain personal knowledge in a variety of areas that will personally benefit them and those they wish to serve. 6 UNIQUE THINGS TO DO AT FOUNTAINDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY

When you think of libraries, you likely think of checking out books and attending events. And while there’s no shortage of both of those at Fountaindale Public Library, they have a world of resources and services that will help inspire lifelong learning, foster creativity and connecta you with your community. You might be surprised at all the fascinating things you can do at the library, so here are six to get you started. 1. RENEW YOUR LICENSE PLATE STICKER Renewing your license plate shouldn’t be an allday event—and now it doesn’t have to be. Visit Fountaindale seven days a week to purchase your vehicle sticker in just minutes. You will need to bring your Illinois vehicle registration renewal notice sent by the Secretary of State, current registration card or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and your current driver’s license or ID. A $7.50 service fee—and a three percent transaction fee if paying by credit card—will be applied to each sticker. 2. GET FREE OR DISCOUNTED MUSEUM PASSES Does your family enjoy visiting Brookfield Zoo, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, Cantigny Park and Naper Settlement? How about visiting them for free

or at a discounted price? With the library’s Museum Adventure Pass, you can do just that! Simply stop by the Circulation Desk in their lobby to check out a pass using your library card. Passes are first-come, first-served as there are a limited number of passes for each participating organization. 3. DIGITIZE YOUR PHOTOS AND OLD MOVIES Do you have a pile of VHS tapes (or even 8mm film) full of memories like your baby’s first steps or that first wobbly bicycle ride down the sidewalk? How about old photos, negative or even slides? Using the library’s VHS to DVD converter or their Epson photo scanner, you can digitize and preserve your memories in Studio 300 before the ravishes of time deteriorate these media types of yesteryear.

4. GET YOUR DOCUMENTS NOTARIZED If you are in need of a notary, Fountaindale has several staff members who can assist you at no cost. The library tries to have someone available during all business hours, but they encourage visitors to call to confirm availability on that day. Notary services are provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and you will need to bring a valid ID issued by a state or federal agency that includes your photo and signature and your unsigned document to be notarized. Documents must be signed in the notary’s presence. 5. RESERVE A FREE MEETING SPACE Fountaindale has many spaces for groups and individuals to meet, study and create. Their meetings rooms are perfect for business meetings, group presentations and community gatherings for groups of five to 100 people. Each room comes equipped with an HD projector, and projection screen, a Blu-ray/DVD player and an HD stereo sound system. On the lower level of the library, Studio 300 houses audio recording suites, video recording and photography studios and group collaboration rooms that include two 48” monitors, a table with built-in laptop ports and charging outlets and a whiteboard wall to make sharing ideas with your team a breeze.

GET YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA Fountaindale is proud to offer district residents ages 19 and older the opportunity to earn a free, accredited online high school diploma through Career Online High School. Since 2014, they have had more than 27 graduates successfully complete the program and go on to pursue exciting careers. They were even the first library in Illinois, and only the third in the country, to offer this program. If you’re ready to take your education to the next level, you need not look farther than your library.

PROGRAMS & PROJECTS BACK IN ACTION AT BOLINGBROOK PARK DISTRICT

Bolingbrook Park District is excited to be full-swing back into programming. Gymnastics, dance, youth sports, fitness, preschool, aquatics and theatre are filled with smiling faces. You can see all the opportunities available to you on our new website at www.bolingbrookparks.org. The site provides an easier way to filter directly to the programs you are interested in. Pelican Harbor Indoor/Outdoor Aquatic Park is also back up to its full operation. Families have been enjoying the new family changing rooms and renovated locker rooms. Exciting additions this year have been the expansion of our in-house swim team and welcoming Bolingbrook High School’s swim team. Progress has continued to be made on the projects slated from the successful 2018 referendum ask. Five new playgrounds were installed this past summer. These playgrounds included: Plimmer Park (410 Lily Cache Lane), Drafke Park (1125 Quail Run), The Forest (1399 Carriage Lane), Ivanhoe Park (190 Falconridge Way), and Century Park (1675 Apple Valley Drive). The Century Park playground was a small part of the entire Century Park project which included basketball and pickleball courts, a gazebo, new pathway, improved fishing area and overall park enhancements. This beautiful park expansion was made possible due to a successful grant application through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Our talented team has been busy putting together a year packed with fun for you in 2022. Our community events will be back in full swing with Winterfest kicking it all off in February. WORKFORCE ACADEMY BUILDING FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS

The Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce is continuing its partnership with Bolingbrook High School’s Cooperative Work Training (CWT) program for our enhanced education program called Workforce Academy. The intent of the partnership is to create a vibrant, quality workforce that will be impactful for Bolingbrook businesses and the community once the students graduate. With the help of business owners, general managers and executives from the Bolingbrook area, Workforce Academy brings these volunteers into the classroom to help students develop workplace strengths and leadership skills through interactive presentations and firsthand accounts. These weekly sessions highlight growth potential

and life potential, courtesy of the Bolingbrook business community. It is our hope, that through this program, we prepare students for careers and further development in the community for the rest of their lives. When Workforce Academy is in session, business leaders go into the classrooms to reinforce skills needed for success in the working world. CWT students are seniors who are employed or must be employed to stay in the program. They have early release which allows them to have part-time jobs. In the fall, business-related soft skills are covered while in the spring the focus is on successful postgraduation employment and training. Semester topics include customer service, appropriate social media profiles, resume writing, successful interviewing, apprenticeships and internships. The BACC is grateful for the support of the CWT teachers and our business leaders who make time to be volunteer presenters.

PUBLIC SERVICES & DEVELOPMENT Public Services & Development combines Public Works, Community Development and Planning & Zoning departments providing services to residents with respect to public right of way and infrastructure. The department answers questions regarding garbage pickup, recycling, and yard waste collection, schedules service tickets for street light and pothole repair, dead animal removal from Village streets and other requests for services handled by its various divisions (Engineering, Streets, Building and Fleet Maintenance, Forestry and Electrical and Wastewater Utilities). In addition review of all developmental and permit applications for compliance with zoning development and building codes and issuance of building permits and occupancy certificates. The Public Services Department business hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., (630) 226-8800. A Public Services employee is also always on-call. For after-hours emergencies that require immediate attention, call the Police Department Non-Emergency number, (630) 2268660 and they will notify Public Services.

Building Permits are required for any household work performed with the exception of cosmetic projects e.g. painting, flooring. Kevin O’Keeffe Executive Director Kevin graduated from the University of St. Francis in Joliet with a degree in Broadcast Communications and has been Executive Director of the Chamber since 2014. During this time, the chamber has experienced continuous growth. Prior to coming to the Bolingbrook Chamber, he was the Director of Membership for the Elmhurst Chamber, and prior to that owned Fontano’s Subs for over six years. While owning Fontana’s, Kevin joined the Elmhurst Chamber and became Chairman of the Board. His hobbies include being an official for high school basketball, football and lacrosse.

Grace Tucker Manager of Communications, Membership Services, and Events Grace is a 45-year resident of Bolingbrook. She, her husband and their three children are Bolingbrook High School alumni. After graduating with a BA in English from Loyola University of Chicago she embarked on a 20-year career in the newspaper industry as a copy editor, features writer, editor and managing editor. Making the move to the Bolingbrook Chamber was a natural fit; allowing her to utilize her well-honed communications and organizational skill set to their maximum advantage.

Emily is a recent Bolingbrook graduate and is studying for her real estate license with the intention of later earning a 4-year degree in business marketing. Working part time at the Chamber office is something she really enjoys. Her Spanish language skills often come in handy, and she is always happy to use them. She loves being able to meet some of the greatest business minds of Bolingbrook in the hopes of one day being just as successful.
