Wedding Date June 20, 2020 Occupations Sara
is the development officer for the Durham County Library, and RJ is the marketing director at Raging Bull HarleyDavidson. Crossed Paths Sara and RJ are both from Durham, but RJ moved to Wooster, Ohio, for college, while Sara stayed closer to attend Peace College in Raleigh. After interning for a company in Chicago, RJ moved back to North Carolina, longing for warmer weather and to be close to his family again. Years later, in October 2017, RJ and Sara were enjoying a night out at the Wooden Nickel Pub in Hillsborough when they saw each other from across the room. There was an instant connection, Sara says. The two spent the evening discussing their love for travel and motorcycles. On their first date, they took a motorcycle ride through the countryside.
The Proposal The couple took a
trip to Blowing Rock in December 2019, where they hiked, dined at local restaurants and cozied up by the fire watching Christmas movies. On the morning of the winter solstice, Dec. 21, RJ took Sara for a hike, saying he knew a perfect spot for their New Year’s card photo. As a picture was being taken, RJ got down on one knee. “On the shortest day of the year, we agreed to make the longest commitment of our lives,” Sara says. Now, “I Do” A private ceremony at the Eno River will take place, fittingly, on the summer solstice, with a celebration including family and friends at Durham Central Park the day before. Durham vendors include Amber Lynne Beauty, DJ Shahzad and Desserts Remembered.
