Acclaimed author Annette Saunooke Clapsaddle enthralled a captivated audience with insights into her award-winning debut novel, “Even As We Breathe,” at Chatham Literacy’s annual Fall for Literacy Luncheon Nov. 2. Annette is the first enrolled citizen of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians to publish a novel, and spoke about the inspiration behind her historical fiction work, which is set in Asheville during World War II. The event, held at the Chatham County Agricultural & Conference Center, brought together 145 attendees and raised more than $22,000 for Chatham Literacy’s mission to provide adults living or working in Chatham County with the literacy and educational skills they need to be successful.
