GSP Strength Tests Independent strength tests have been performed by Mar n Joergensen which can be seen at h p://globalflyfisher.com/ e‐ be er/fly‐tying‐thread‐table. Nano Silk comes out strongest comparisons against comparable threads. The big ques on is why is Nano Silk so strong? It is actually simple, GSP threads are made from extruding polythene (Gel Spun Polyethylene GSP) in the same way spaghe is made. The raw plas c is stretched over rollers un l the required diameter and merged into the final thread. Depending on the manufacturer it may then be twisted. With spaghe you get different quality according to the flour used. True ‘00’ flour is used for the best quality spaghe . In the same way Semperfli specifica ons demand the highest quality polyethylene with specific quali es which make the best and strongest quality fly tying thread. As a result our technical team have produced aramids (GSP) where the molecules tend to form rod‐like structures and these are only be oriented in one direc on to form a strong fiber for fly tyers.
