A LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER

I believe there are pivotal moments in every person’s life that determine their direction. For me, it was being adopted. My family is my greatest gift. If my parents had not made the choice to adopt, my life would have looked very different.

Selfless Love Foundation offers the same opportunity to children in foster care and youth aging out. We are breaking generational cycles of neglect, poverty, and abuse by offering hope, help, and second chances. Your presence tonight ensures that we can continue our life-changing work.

Your support is connecting the most vulnerable children in foster care with forever families. We are also building a community of post-adoptive families, which means families will have ongoing connections, support, and resources long after their adoptions are finalized.

The Dream Tank finalists you will meet tonight are a dynamic example of the life skills and leadership training we provide for youth across Florida. I have no doubt you will be as in awe of them as we are!

Our youth are also learning how to effectively share their experiences to make recommendations for policy change. Their advocacy efforts will improve the futures of every child in foster care today, and those who enter the system. We have also created a National Network to initiate change in every state.

Thank you for attending Selfless Love Foundation’s Annual Gala. Proceeds raised at tonight’s event support our mission to leverage resources, expertise, and proven solutions to improve the child welfare system, creating opportunities for more foster youth to find their forever families and thrive in adulthood.

There are more than 100,000 children in foster care in the United States waiting to be adopted. Each year, nearly 20,000 youth age out of the system without a family to support them during their transition to adulthood.

Selfless Love Foundation leverages resources, expertise, and proven solutions to impact the child welfare system in three key areas: adoption, independent living, and advocacy.

ADOPTION

Selfless Love Families provides personal support to families and resources to agencies to streamline the adoption process and move more children from foster care into forever families.

INDEPENDENT LIVING

Selfless Love Foundation provides training and resources to help young adults successfully transition from foster care to adulthood. Through a partnership, we offer supportive housing at Brown’s Harbor for youth who have aged out of foster care.

ADVOCACY

Selfless Love Foundation works with child welfare professionals, lawmakers, and youth leaders to create systems-level changes. We lead a network of youth councils in Florida and a National Network of advocates and child welfare professionals. Together, we are elevating youth voices and driving policy changes.

EVENT HOST

An actress and comedian, Melissa Peterman is best known for her roles in the television series Reba, Young Sheldon, and Baby Daddy, and as a host of television game shows The Singing Bee, Bet on Your Baby, and Person, Place or Thing. She recently starred in Haul Out The Holly and Yuletide The Knot. We are honored to have her as our host for The Gala for the seventh consecutive year!

PERFORMER

As a spoken word artist, Emmanuela Darius performs under the name Cadence The Poet. She is a resident at Brown’s Harbor and a 2023 Dream Tank finalist. Emmanuela is pursuing a degree in English at Miami Dade College.

Fostering Dreams & Building Leaders

The Selfless Love Dream Tank Competition is the capstone of our independent living initiative. Each year, youth with lived experience from across the state apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The finalists are selected and begin a journey that includes speech writing and presentation, professional etiquette training, and business and investment basics. They are introduced to professionals in their field of interest and are invited to speak in front of legislators and child welfare leaders at the Florida State Capitol at the Rally in Tally.

Last night, the finalists presented their speeches to a panel of judges. They were scored on the content, organization, and delivery of their speech along with their stage presence.

Tonight, we will announce the 2024 Dream Tank winner! Each finalist will receive $1,000 and the winner will get the grand prize of $5,000!

Dreams of earning a PhD in Psychology and providing findings to the child welfare community based on research about illness, diseases, and her personal child welfare experiences.

Dreams of encouraging and inspiring internal beauty and higher self-esteem in everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status, by creating and running a quality wig business.

Age: 21

School: Palm Beach State College

Dreams of winning Miss America on a platform of advocacy for children in foster care and empowering young girls of all demographic backgrounds to create positive change.

School: Pasco Hernando State College

Dreams of creating an afterschool creative arts program that would allow children in foster care and other disadvantaged situations to explore the fine arts.

BIDDING

Your bid constitutes a contract to buy. Please give thought to your bidding.

PAYMENT AND SALES TAX

Sales tax will not be collected based on current law. According to the State of Florida Department of Revenue, this is a one-time event held annually, sales are tax-exempt.

Credit cards used to place your bid or donation on the GiveSmart platform will be charged within seven working days of the online Silent Auction—open Wednesday, March 13 through Wednesday, March 20 at 10pm ET—unless otherwise agreed upon. For items available for bidding at the Gala on Saturday, April 6, payments will be processed within one week. Winners may elect to cover processing fees. Selfless Love Foundation, Inc. auction proceeds go to fulfill its mission. Therefore, refunds are not possible.

Item(s) cannot be redeemed until the item(s) have been paid in full.

F EDERAL TAX INFORMATION

For Federal Income Tax purposes, all payments for auction lots shall be made to Selfless Love Foundation, Inc. (EIN #47-4544148), which is classified as a tax-exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). Bidders may be entitled to deduct a portion of their payment for auction lots as a charitable contribution. Each bidder should consult his or her documentation and tax advisors as required by law following the auction.

AUCTION LOT PICK UP AND SHIPPING

Items will be hand-delivered to winners who are in the Palm Beach and Broward County area. Shipping and handling will apply to all winners and may vary based on location and weight. For large items purchased at the Gala, special arrangements must be made at checkout.

CONDITIONS OF PURCHASE

All sales are final. Items are non-transferable, non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash or sold as public sales. Auction lots will only be auctioned once and will not be duplicated, unless agreed upon by all donor parties. Auction winners must be 21+.

If an auction listing specifies ‘local delivery only’ and the winner is not local, the item will go to the next highest bidder. If the item is not paid for within seven business days, the item will go to the next highest bidder.

Selfless Love Foundation is proud to partner with Children’s Harbor to provide supportive housing for youth ages 18-23 who have aged out of foster care.

Along with a community atmosphere, Brown’s Harbor offers on-site guidance to help youth successfully transition to adulthood.

Together, we have provided affordable housing and support to more than 600 youth at our campus in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
