Phase II of the restoration of the 1894 schooner Ernestina-Morrissey is underway. Work continues at Bristol Marine Shipyard in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where the ship’s interior spaces are being fitted out with mechanical systems, safety equipment, and furnishings to accommodate a full complement of passengers and crew. When Phase II is done, Ernestina-Morrissey will go to her new home at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA), in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts, where she will serve as a training ship for cadets. The schooner will also spend time each summer in her traditional homeport in New Bedford. MMA is conducting a formal search for a new captain; the position will be through MMA, a publicly supported state university.
