The Wood Island Life Saving Station in Kittery, Maine, the only life-saving station in the United States with a surviving intact marine railway, will find a new purpose as a maritime museum . Th e Kittery Port Authority recently approved a new pier and the res toration of th e m arine railway (s ubj ect to the ap prova l of the town planning board), and the building was declared eligible fo r the N ation al Register of Historic Places.
