By placing plants, stone, sand fill, and orher srrucrural and organic ma rerials along a shoreline in place of hardened

Bay Ship & Yacht Co. of Alameda, CA, recently started work on the restoration of the historic three-masted ship Balclutha, one of the fleet of historic ships at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park. After rhe hull repairs are com plered in drydock, rhe shi p will undergo topside work ar rhe shipyard's main pier. By sprin g, the ship will be towed back to the museum's Hyde Srreer Pier in San Francisco where she will resume her role as a museum ship. Balclutha is a sreel-hulled, square-rigged ship built in G lasgow, Scorland, in 1886. In her 17 trips aro und C ape Horn, she carried bulk cargos between
