GP 200 Stage 4 cylinder kit
This is the cylinder which was fitted as standard to the Indian GP 200 Lambrettas. The barrel was modified to stage 4 specifications by increasing the port timings without loosing its suitability for day-to-day use. Also the materials used add to the overall ruggedness of the kit. If you have ever tried to tune such a cylinder by hand you will know how hard the cast iron barrel is.

The Stage 4 can be used with standard carburettors like the SH 20 or Jetex SH without problems. Full performance is delivered using a 24 mm carb or larger, which then should be used in conjunction with the standard air filter box or a foam filter. Also many different kinds of exhausts can be used successfully. When fitted with a Clubman exhaust and a 30 mm carb, the cylinder offers up to 15 very reliable horsepower. Up to 5 hp more can be gained when using a good and suitable expansion pipe. Despite its slightly tuned timings compared to the original cylinder, the Stage 4 provides enormous grunt from low revs. This makes it the first choice for building a reliable touring engine. Exhaust timing is 168 degrees, which is a good compromise between bottom-end power and peak performance. Even with a PHBL 25mm carb and Clubman exhaust the engine reaches 8000 rpm, which gives a touring speed of 110 kph. The kit produces enough torque to pull the tall SX 200 gearbox. If this is not enough, a larger carb and a expansion pipe can be used. With a JL Taffspeed Road the engine will get near to 18 hp. In general, any type of expansion pipe may be used in conjunction with the Stage 4, which might be of interest for all those who contemplate upgrading to a TS1 later on. The Stage 4 offers good performance at a very fair price with reasonable additional costs. The kit can be combined with a 22mm carb and a standard exhaust without problems, so that it is also a good choice if a smaller engine is converted to 200cc using new engine casings only. Ignition timing is 19 degrees for most engines. Only for high-revving engines with peaky expansion the ignition should be further retarded. The cylinder kit can be reconditioned easily after a seizure using a suitable oversize piston which we also offer. An interesting option is also to use a Rapido piston the 70mm piston will take the Stage 4 to 225 cc, giving an additional boost in power. Altogether the Stage 4 is a very versatile kit with lots of tuning potential bored to 225cc, with an expansion pipe and 30mm carb it may even break the 20 hp barrier. The decisive factor here is the transfer timing, which can be raised easily by using a 60mm crank.
