are certified. With more than 365 lakes, there are plenty of opportunities to go swimming, paddling and fishing. During summer, you will find homesteads along some of the routes – perfect to stop for a Swedish fika. There are also shelters and campsites, if you want to set up a tent for the night. Amongst popular destinations is Glaskogen, one of Sweden’s largest nature reserves with 300 kilometres of hiking trails and some 150 kilometres of canoe routes. The nature reserve is also home to one of the country’s most beautiful wilderness campsites. “Glaskogen is a protected area, which contributes to its unspoilt character,” says Appelqvist. “You will also find a Natura 2000 zone, with virgin forest. Here, wildlife is rich with interesting bird species, including golden eagles.”
