Unique stays in the heart of Hardangervidda Nestled in the dramatic landscape of Hardangervidda, Halne Fjellstugu has welcomed guests for almost a century. Originally built in 1933 as a simple mountain farm offering overnight shelter for passing travellers, Halne Fjellstugu is rich in history and traditions. Over the years, the family-run business evolved into a dedicated inn known for comfortable lodgings and hearty meals. Halne entered a new chapter when Geirmund Tormodsgard and Ingar Dalen took over as owners in 2016. Over the past ten years, the pair have worked tirelessly to preserve the inn’s unique character while continuing to improve the guest experience. “This is a lifestyle for us,” says Tormodsgard. “When we 64

took over, Halne was well-run with a great reputation for good food and hospitality. It’s been a joy to continue building on this heritage and keeping local food traditions alive using the natural ingredients of Hardangervidda.” In its humble beginnings, Halne provided a safe place to stay for those travelling between east and west, its location by the fjord making it a convenient resting place before continuing the journey. “The word ‘halne’ means halfway, and this has been a natural stopover for travellers for centuries,” Tormodsgard explains.

Today, Halne offers a range of accommodation options to suit different budgets and types of stays, combining its historic charm with modern comforts. Guests can choose from room types, apartments and cabins ranging from simple and rustic to well-positioned lodges with panoramic views. “There’s something for everyone,” Tormodsgard says. “Whether it’s a quick stop on the way somewhere, a child-friendly family holiday, an active getaway with friends or a unique experience in a modern mountain suite, we have options for every traveller.” A taste of Hardangervidda In this traditional mountain region, people have always relied on the natural ingredients of the changing seasons.
