At the castle restaurant, 1699, guests are spoiled with beautiful seasonal German cuisine made of largely regional produce. From St. Martin’s Day (11 November) onwards, the cosy evenings with roast goose, the traditional German alcoholic drink Feuerzangenbowle, and the German classic film of the same name, come highly recommended.
All the way back in 1009, castle Tangermünde received its very first mention in the local chronicles, but not everything of Emperor Karl IV’s stunning estate survived. While some parts were destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War, fortunately the Old Chancellery, the ballroom, the prison tower and the keep, as well as the ancient city wall, all remained intact. The Baroque building, which towers majestically above the Elbe River and now serves as the hotel’s main building, was erected by Elector Friedrich III (later King of Prussia) in 1699. Tangermünde. Although it has been extensively refurbished, it remains a very special place with stunning views of the lush floodplains on one side and the Hanseatic town of Tangermünde on the other. Tangermünde has been chosen as Germany’s most beautiful small town by Travelbook, and effortlessly charms visitors with its unique medieval atmosphere. Back at the castle, the large gardens invite guests to linger as long as they wish. Aside from the main building and the summerhouses, you can also find the hotel’s spa Kaisertherme here. It is a lovely experience to go for an energising morning dip in the pool,
“If you are longing for peace and quiet, clean air and healthy food, you have found your spot,” Melanie Busse enthuses. “Hotel Schloss Tangermünde is the perfect place for that work-life balance – authentic, romantic and pleasurable.” www.schloss-tangermuende.de
