Jens has been running his own surgery ‘Praxis für Plastische und Ästhetische Chirurgie’ in his hometown of Würzburg since April 2014. Asked about his work, he says: “I not only specialise in conventional aesthetic procedures but – mostly on the recommendation of colleagues – also take care of complex cases when a previous operation hasn’t been satisfactory.” Breast enlargements with silicone implants are still very popular, and as the risks of such a procedure are currently under discussion, we ask the expert for his advice: “When choosing a surgeon, it is important to consider their experience and, if in doubt, get another opinion. With regards to the surgical method used, it is key to factor-in the anatomic characteris56 | Issue 74 | May 2019
tics of each individual patient. There are no standard solutions – everything needs to be customised.” And which implants would he recommend? “In general, the safety and quality of implants has increased considerably in recent years. During your consultation, ask about the type of implants used, where they come from and how much they cost. Using specially coated implants creates naturally shaped breasts, while at the same time, reducing risk,” explains Jens. He also highlights the alternatives to silicone implants: “Regenerative medicine can lead to impressive operation results in aesthetic surgery. Given the right tech-
nique and experience, fat-transfer breast augmentation, i.e. taking fat from other parts of your body to inject it into your breast, can produce stable long-term results. The previous problem of durability has been solved by optimising the removal technique so that we can now offer fat transfer as a viable alternative to silicone.” www.kauczok.de
