Where Salzburg meets Venice The newly renovated Hotel Stein follows the concept ‘Salzburg meets Venice’ and offers its guests a beautiful stylistic merge of the two historically significant places. TEXT: MARILENA STRACKE  I  PHOTOS: HOTEL STEIN

Even before they reopened at the beginning of March, legendary Hotel Stein was already known far beyond Salzburg and its surrounding areas. First mentioned on record as early as 1399 when it was still a pub, the listed building has been carefully renovated during the past year. The brand-new hotel concept successfully combines the typical styles of Salzburg and Venice. Since the late 16th century, Italian architecture has been playing a major role in designing the appearance of Salzburg 54  |  Issue 61  |  April 2018

and has subsequently also contributed to the stunning city becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. Integrating this historic background into the new hotel concept has proven extremely successful already. The 56 rooms and suites are lovingly decorated with carefully selected pieces of art, which is of utmost importance for owner Rinaldo Ivernizzi. His family also owns the traditional Venetian glass manufactory Barovier & Toso, which is a lucky connec-

tion for Hotel Stein. Various handmade unique lamps and glass artworks specifically made for the hotel are on display for the guests and give Hotel Stein its very special charm. The large-scale photography by Salzburgbased photographer Luigi Caputo complements this further. The photos show moments of Venice and Salzburg and are homage to both of these remarkable places. “The artful photographs fit in perfectly with the overall concept and contribute to the unique atmosphere, which the owner envisioned for its guests,” explains hotel director Margot Weindorfer. “In full alignment with the concept is also the fact that it was possible to gain the Venetian textile
