Where to Stay From upscale oceanfront resorts

to cozy mountaintop cabins, the greater San Diego area offers a wide variety of family-friendly lodging. Find plenty of hotels and motels near the beach and inland; private home rentals throughout the region through Airbnb and VRBO; and an array of coastal and alpine tent or cabin camping options. There’s even “Hotel Circle”, a collection of reasonably priced accommodations, centrally located in Mission Valley.

If your family is seeking onsite, water-based fun, check out historic oceanfront Hotel del Coronado, the spectacular sunsets and beach aquatics center of La Jolla Shores Hotel, or the eight separate pools and waterslides of Omni La Costa Resort & Spa. If resorts aren’t your style, reserve a campsite at San Elijo or South Carlsbad State Beaches – both campgrounds are located on gorgeous coastal bluffs overlooking sandy beaches (there’s even Wi-Fi). RV campers might enjoy Campland on the Bay, an urban campground with excellent access to water sports activities, or San Diego Metro KOA, which has RV sites and cabins. You won’t go wrong with a themed room at one of LEGOLAND’s hotels, including their newly opened Castle Hotel. Your little pirate or princess will love the fun décor and treasure hunt to unlock your room’s private chest; you’ll love how well they sleep at night. Prefer something more off-the-beaten path? Head further inland—in winter, you might even find snow in the Laguna Mountains. Or, check out the charming town of Julian, located in the Cuyamaca Mountains. Some lovely bed and breakfasts welcome families and the area offers abundant access to nature’s tranquility. #sdoutandabout • SanDiegoFamily.com •
